PANAMA CITY, Panama - The defending champion United States baseball team failed to qualify for the 2004 Athens Olympics, stunned by Mexico 2-1 Friday in a qualifying tournament. The U.S. team was among the favorites to win the gold medal again, and there was a chance Roger Clemens would have pitched for the Americans. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tm...1107/ap_on_sp_ol/oly_u_s__baseball_eliminated
What an embarrassment... Right up there with the "Dream Team" getting spanked in the World Championships. Haven't they learned not to take qualifying tournaments lightly? It's worse than Holland missing the World Cup. It would be like Brazil failing to qualify for the World Cup Finals.
This was the first game they lost in the tournament. They won their first 3. Unfortunately they lost a quarterfinal game.
To the victor go.........the Victor. Victor Alvarez! A hallmark of the Los Angeles Wakefields, supervisor on Project Arcturus, part-time clerk at Hannaford's, Nicholas Brendan Fan Club President, and around around deity. The kids call him V-Train, and I suppose you can too. Also, people scoffing or embarassed by the thought of a States loss, should be aware of how much talent is on Team Mexico. This truly isn't a case of a game given away, but seized by the upstart kids from south of the border. Go V-Train!
Bah. There are like 400 trillion other olympic sports in which the Americans will win gold medals in anyway.
Are you rooting for the Mexicans, you traitor, eh??? Are you saying the Americans are a bunch of untalented losers, eh??? I will now boycott all things Mexican, including cocaine, burritos, chihuahuas, tequilas, and Salma Hayek until after the Olympics. Well, maybe except for Salma Hayek... and cocaine...
You know, Kryten, V-Train is a firm proponent of Salma Hayek's portrayal of Frida Kahlo. That wild V-Train. Such a dream boat, in the ocean of love.
This is absolutely embarrassing. Basebally is "America's Favorite Pastime," and we can't even qualify for the Olympics. What to do next???
I saw this on SC last night on the ticker, but I couldn't believe it... America's past time... In soccer vs. Mexico, I would say maybe, but in freakin' baseball...
time to make football our new national pasttime and make it a new olympic event. that'll last us, what, 12-18 years?
