you can pretty much do whatever you want over pay cable, the theory is that since traditional broadcast is "pervasive" in that it's beamed into your house whether you want it or not, it's subject to more censorship, but since you have to voluntarily pay for cable, it's not subject to the same. A pretty dumb distinction, but it's what we got.
Yeah but he always said n!ggers, I thought the censorship was only for *****s. This site doesn't even censor it, it censors ******s. <---See
just like in the title. If OP titled the thread, "U can say "******" on cable now???", that's not being derogatory. it's simply asking a question using the actual word. anytime someone tells a story that involves the word "******", they say, "the 'n'word". we all know what the "n" word is so what's the point of dancing around it? a related example is when Steve Kerr called Yao Ming a chinaman which is a derogatory term to the Chinese. Well, whenever that incident was referenced, people still said "chinaman", they didn't say, "Steve Kerr called him the C-word."
Are you white? If not, maybe you just can't understand why non-racist white people don't use the word. You can say it's not offensive all you want, it still goes over like a lead balloon when you say it.
its used during OTA broadcasts as well.... i'm didn't say it's not an offensive word. but given the context, such as a second hand story, it isn't. lets say you and i are having a beer and during your lunch you told me you overheard somebody call someone else the 'n' word. your exact words to me are, "Man, I can't believe that guy called him the 'n' word." Now, the word is clearly offensive to the guy who got called it. But, if you were to say to me, "Man, I can't believe that guy called him "******." That's not being offensive.
Have a question? "When did Archie Bunker ever use the "n" word, at least on the show?" George Jefferson and a few characters in "Sanford and Son" did. But, Archie Bunker never said it, he even joked about it,"I ain't said that word in three year." It was the episode where the Jeffersons were meeting the Willises for the first time. He did use spook, spade, and jungle bunny.
Yeah, you're probably right. I don't remember him saying it either. I do remember him using those last few you mentioned.

John Lennon had the song, "Woman is the ****** of the World." His NY concert with Elephant's Memory was on TV recently and they bleeped it every time during the song.
Why are you surprised they can use the word ****** on Cable? You hear every other racial slurs on TV all the time. A better question would be why does this board, and many other American based social network sites and utilities (message boards, chat programs), only censor the n word, but not honky, spic, chinaman, etc ? A small oversight or just don't care? No, that's ridiculous. I agree you shouldn't say it, and you shouldn't bring it up for no reason just for an excuse to say it either. But using it in context of a serious discussion is not something an educated person should be complaining about. Did you support banning Huckleberry Finn from schools too?
as mentioned here, I'm pretty sure cable networks like FX and Comedy Central can air explicit material at their own standards vs the big three networks... like when they air unedited episodes of South Park after midnight...
Yeah I know there are different rules after midnight, and I have seen those episodes of South Park on Comedy Central without censorship. The difference is that this was on at 7 PM on FX, kind of caught me by surprise.
American television is still very censored compared to some countries. I think America has less problems with language and violence.....and for some reason, more so with sexual content.
