No one seems excited about this guy but . . he did not opt out Will he be CUT???? If we get a Dfish or BBarry how many PGs do we have? Id he is the backup . . will we still have Wilks as a 3rd PG? Rocket River
He's a very solid back up point guard and he isn't getting paid a ton of money. He'll be a big upgrade over Moochie and Mark Jackson.
Doesn't he want a lot of money? Wasn't he kind of the key to this trade? (if he opted out of his contract, the deal wouldn't have gone through) He would be a great backup to Fisher or Barry.
What about Mark Jackson? I know he's old as dirt, but still played more minutes than Wilks. I see the Rockets cutting Wilks.
Lue is quick. He would be money against A.I., Parker, Casell, etc. Chances are our starting PG would be old and slow.
Actually, they thought Lue would opt out in search of more money, but he decided not to. He will make $1.6 million this season - the last of a 2-year deal. He'll be a free agent after this coming season.
Why would they cut him? I thought it was posted on cc.net that the Rockets protected him from The bobcats draft?
IF... we somehow manage to sign Brent Barry, Lue becomes important for defense. Against speedy PGs, I can see Lue starting at the 1, Barry starting at the 2, and McGrady moving over to the 3. Best case, he's a nice change of pace off the bench and good for the defense. Worst case, he dribbles as much as Moochie and won't be signed next year. Either way, we win (especially considering his $1.6 million salary this year).
If indeed we are picking up Fisher or Barry, we will definitely need Lue as a defensive safeguard against the quicker PG's in the league. Teams have learned to exploit the Lakers on P&R's because of their guards' slow feet and Shaq's inability (or unwillingness) to show hard. The Lakers only wish they had Lue during the past couple of seasons...so trust me, we will need this guy when the Bibbys, Billups and Nashs start breaking us down and penetrating at will.
I wasn't aware that they protected Wilks during the expansion draft. Seems like a waste to me. Maybe because they it to spare
I think Lue will be a nice change of pace PG for the ROX. He is inexpensive so he will be around next season. Hopefully, he will be a backup to Fisher, Barry or Hudson.
As a backup PG I think Lue will do just fine on this team. He is a "spark plug" and a good change of pace PG to come off the bench. He can push the tempo for the second unit which I think will be important. If we get Barry, Lue would be a good counterpart to Barry at PG.
if nothing else, the crowd will go "Luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu" whenever he comes into the game. Seriously, we would be hard pressed to find more value for 1.5MM or whatever the number. He shut down AI in the finals for the Lakers. He is going to be useful against the Carlos Arroyo's of the world.
Lue completely shut down AI during 2000 NBA finals. He will be super useful against the likes of Tony Parker, Bibby, and Speedy.
He'll be starting if we don't land a PG in FA/via trade...good defensive player which goes a long way with JVG
I wish people could make a case for Lue's d w/o referencing the Finals a few years ago. The refs let him get away with mugging Iverson the whole series, Lue admitted it himself. I'm not the least bit sold on his d.
i´ll take lue over mooch any day of the week... 1) he has more upside 2) frindly contract.... 3) actually can find the open man 4) plays better d than mooch . . . 99) lue doesn´t even know how to spell 24-seconds violation....
Lue would be the perfect backup if we can get Brent Barry. If a quick point like Parker is blowing past Brent we can move him to the two, McGrady to the three, and bring in Lue. He'll really solidify the bench. If we bring in Fisher, I'm not so sure. Two undersized PGs (three, if we keep Wilks) on the team just doesn't sit well with me.
