While I'm not questioning Ming's abilities, I am very concerned with the uncertainty of the Chinese political system & whether or not we'll have him around for full seasons. So, here's two trade ideas that play off of some proposals in other threads, that I believe would be beneficial to the Rockets. Trade #1 Houston sends Rice/KT/#1 pick to the Clippers. The Clippers send Odom/Maggette/#8/#12/next year's #1 pick to Houston. Depending on how desperate the Clippers are to get JW, will ultimately determine if this trade could even get started. I'm assuming that they'd be willing to give up everything that I suggested & has been speculated about in other threads. Trade #2 Houston sends Mobley/Collier/#15 pick to Washington. Washington sends Kwame/Alexander/#11 pick to Houston. Washington gets a budding superstar in Mobley & a big man with range in Collier. Houston gets an adequate replacement for Mobley, in Alexander, & possibly our center of the future, in Kwame. Next, I'd try to swap the #11 pick for the #13 pick with Milwaukee & pick up a future #1 or a couple of second round picks. Then, I'd send the #13 pick to Memphis, in order to complete the Francis trade. Or, I might trade the #8, #11, & #12 picks to Denver for the #5 pick. Denver needs several players, not just one. They should be able to draft 3 starters with the #8, #11, & #12 picks, instead of just one. Or, I'd trade the #12 pick away for future considerations & pick the best available athletes with the #8 & #11 picks. These two trades would give us a new look of: C: Kwame/Cato/Willis PF: Taylor/Griffin SF: Odom/#5 pick?/T-Mo SG: Maggette/Alexander/Torres PG: Francis/Brown/#5 pick? I'd say that's an improvement long term & we acquired a #1 pick for next year. Would you do it?
What's going to happen with Rip Hamilton? His game and Mobley's are kind of similar and they both playing shooting guard. But, I wouldn't do it. Basically it comes down to Ming. I believe he can be the 2nd best center in the NBA, so I wouldn't trade him. You probably believe there's too many question marks, and think the #1 pick would be worth more in a trade. The ones who are coming up with all these trades are the ones who think Ming will be a bust, and the ones who criticize all the trades are the ones who think Ming is the real deal. I think that's pretty much what it comes down to. Maybe there's a few Ming-lovers who can be swayed by a really good trade, but I think the majority just wouldn't trade him no matter what. So, I could make up a bunch of reasons why this trade wouldn't work, but its really just because I want Yao! ...ah hell, I'll do it anyway. As for your specific trade, taking Kwame Brown is probably equivalent to a late lottery or mid-first-round pick this season, because that's when Kwame would be taken in this deep draft. Magette seems miles away from a sure thing. Alexander I believe will eventually be a lesser version of Cuttino Mobley. I'm really not excited with acquring any of these three players. The fifth pick wouldn't be much use if we already had Odom. The player we take with that pick would just become a bench player, so that doesn't really excite me much either. And as for Odom, I wouldn't mind having him, but not at the expense of giving up Ming.
There's too much things that have to happen to get this lineup. Kwame Brown is too much of a risk, and Maggette is a downgrade from Mobley.
Imposible Ideas! LES IS THE BOSS! THE HOUSTON ROCKETS PICK YAO MING WITH THEIR FIRST PICK. A FRANCHISE CENTER FOR MANY YEARS TO COME!
i love your first trade, but i don't know if the clips would do it, maybe take away next year's pick. sign odom to rice's contract and get borchard with the number 8. the second trade as rocketblast said is too much of a risk. magette currently is a huge downgrade from cuttino, even factoring in potential i still think he's less of a player in the future. imo, kwame is a huge unknown, and probably can't play center anyways. i'd rather take these risks on a bonafide center named yao ming.
Clips would never do the 1st trade. So, they trade a starter, and a key backup player, AND the 8, 12, and next year's #1 for KT (undersized backup PF), Rice (washed up cap space eater), and our #1 (the only benefit for LAC in this deal)?
The best thing the Rockets can do besides drafting Ming is to try to trade KT,Collier, and the 15th and maybe future considerations to clipps for the 8th . They need to get in position ahead of washington and miami to get a small forward. With arcus going back to school and the stanford guy still chillin, i think the next big man is gadzuric whom the clipps can get at 12 or 15. Woods or Jeffries would be ideal on this team.
I like trade 1 but not two were getting ripped off Cuttino is good and Francis the Real Gm would never let him go.
The first trade scenario sounds great to me. The clips ned a point guard of Jwills' caliber and what do they care how many picks it costs them? We traded three picks last year for Eddie! Jwill could definatley be the last piece that makes them a playoff contender. With Odum and some good draft selections the Rocks should be strong at all positions and have a good bench to boot. We do not have to have a dominant center.
That's simple. Move him back to the SF position, put Mobley in at the SG spot & have Jordan run the point. Cat can also play some point in a pinch, but is more suited to be the SG. Playing Jordan at the point might drop his scoring average a bit, but he's a lot more experienced & with the combination of Mobley, Hamilton, & Jordan on the floor, who do you guard? The other reason the trade would help Washington build for the future, is that Jordan probably won't play past next year. If they don't start adding some key pieces now, then they face the possibility of returning to their old losing ways, once Jordan re-retires. I can't say that I believe Ming will be a bust, because I don't know that. What I suspect & what causes me to have reservations about picking him, is the uncertainty & unpredictability of the Chinese government. Ming might very well be the next Wilt Chamberlain or an even better Olajuwon, but if some branch of the Chinese government suddenly decides to pull him back just as we're entering the playoffs, I suspect that all those that are shouting his praises will be just as upset as I will. The other reason that I would rather trade the pick, is that Ming will most likely take a year or two to develop an NBA game & we actually have two areas of need (C & SF). By trading the pick, we fill both of those needs & acquire additional picks for the future. As of this moment, I don't believe that Ming could carry us to the Championship game, but I could be wrong. I agree that Maggette & Alexander are a step down from Mobley, but they are solid players & give us quality depth at the SG position. Maggette put up comparable numbers to Mobley when he was given the same minutes. Here's a link to his game by game stats. Look at what he puts up when he gets 30+ minutes per game. http://www.nba.com/playerfile/corey_maggette/game_by_game_stats.html Why do you feel that the #5 pick would just warm the bench? If we assume that the first 4 picks will be some combination of Ming, JW, Dunleavy, & Wagner, then that still leaves us with a choice of Butler (6'7") or Woods (6'9") at the #5 pick. There's no reason why we couldn't plug one of them in at the SG position (Remember Battier or Szczerbiak?). Imagine Woods at 6'9" playing the SG spot. Talk about mismatches. An eventual starting 5 of Francis/Woods/Odom/Griffin/Kwame would be incredible. As for Kwame, I know that he struggled most of last year, but he also reportedly had some condition that caused him to be fatigued rather quickly. However, he started playing more minutes towards the end of the year & was putting up at least Cato type numbers by that time & he's only one year removed from high school. I haven't seen him play, but I've read on more than one occasion that he's as quick as lightning. That sounds like the perfect center for the Rockets. Here's the link to his game by game stats for last year. Take special note of his numbers in the month of April, when he started getting starter minutes & keep in mind that he's just one year removed from high school. http://www.nba.com/playerfile/kwame_brown/game_by_game_stats.html If this explaination doesn't convince you that this is the way to go, then I'll just have to accept the fact that I'm right & you're wrong. j/k
I know that these trade proposals are all in fun, but I wonder if ANY of these trades like this have ever come true with the Rockets. Can anyone quote an actual example of a trade mentioned on this BBS first that actually happened??? I'll add to the trade predictions that will never happen. Jason Collier for Shaq - Lakers dont need Shaq's big contract Tierre Brown for Allen Iverson - 76ers tired of AI Dan Langhi for Grant Hill - GH is always injured but worth the risk
