2 QUESTIONS? I have been on vacation for a ccouple of weeks, and I have missed alot, so I have two questions for every one. What is the deal with us getting Rashard Lewis? Why is everyone so upset with Steve?
I still can't figure this one out. Here's what Steve has done. 1.He's had the shoulder surgery, early in the off season to be ready for the year. 2. He went to the Mayo Clinic this summer to take care of the Migraine problem. He went just like he said he was going to do. 3.Steve was most likely, at first, upset about drafting Ming. Like a true and mature pro, he didn't make a fuss or rock the boat. He waited until seeing more tape and until he had more information on Ming. At that time he urged Cat to watch Ming's tape, and has made some positive comments about Ming. The fact that he waited until being more informed shows me real maturity and a professional attitude. Since he was open enough to get that information before commenting, he'll probably be open enough to give Ming a fair shot. So far Steve has been nothing, but fair. 4.Despite being injured an unable to play, Francis went to encourage and cheer his teammates on at the summer league, as well as work with Keith Jones and the Rockets coaches. That's a team player. Has Steve or will steve improve his defense? Has Steve thought about and will he work on his skills as a more of a floor general? Who knows?
I have an even simpler explanation: 1) People are bored 2) People are REALLY bored 10/31/02: It's on like James Bond
The people who are really upset with him are the same people who hated him to begin with. But, he did make some comments revealing his hesitancy in signing a contract extension, and possibly revealing that he's still not exactly happy with the draft. Basically, he doesn't want to be locked into a losing team and is tired of being on a losing team and not getting enough attention. This is surprising because early on after the season it sounded like it was just going to be the Rockets offering and Francis accepting. Now, that may not be the case. The exact quotes are below: "A lot of other guys have locked themselves in for years," Francis said. "It's definitely something that's out there. We'll have to come to a conclusion with this. We'll be able to come to a conclusion sooner than later. You never know. "The money is not really the situation. It's about winning. I'm definitely tired of being in the doghouse in the NBA, people not really paying attention to your team, people not really respecting your team. When you go through things like that it tends to wear on you. You want to be in the situation where everybody is looking forward to winning." This isn't a cause for concern now, but it could be if its getting close to October and Steve still hasn't signed the extension. However, I think it will be all be cleared up soon. I think those comments are pretty much what brought all the Steve-Haters out from their caves.
I am not a Steve hater. But I can understand why when a player coming out of college demanded NOT be drafted by a certain team, people consider him a selfish guy. I have hated John Elway because he used his possible baseball career to force the teams he didn't like not to get him. But maybe I hated him because he didn't want to play for the Oilers, not because he is selfish.
