...will this give Aaron Brooks an opportunity to rise to the next level? I know that Rafer's ankle should be fine by the beginning of this season, but still... Thoughts?

    Lock this if already posted.

I had high hopes for Brooks last year, hopefully he can fill those empty shoes this year.

All that talk about Brooks being a great shooter made me excited last year... But he was shooting HORRIBLE.

Whatever happened to his shot? Hopefully it's him being nervous.

And Brooks has many opportunities. Just show the coaches you are ready to play during practice, like Landry.

He has the speed, but sometimes i see his handlings aren't up on par with his speed causing turnovers.

Not true imo , his handles are great , nobody could pressure last year and it wasn't only because of his speed.

Thw 2 problems with him for me are:
1)Shooting , he was supposed to be a very good shooter but he was horrible last year , when you are 6 feet you got to be able to shoot well.

2)His defense , imo he will be ok here , he will always struggle against the big point guards but as he matures he will only get better.

I want him to shoot 37+% from 3.

Hooray, power is back from the Hurricane outage. (still praying for all of you that don't have it)

Anyways, I really don't see Brooks as a starter quality PG. He's just too small. He could develop to be a great backup, but not a starter.

We better hope some of our other PGs can fill the role.

I agree his handle is about average. Its his speed that gives him that separation. He has a nice stroke he just had rookie jitters. He did have a nice stretch of games were everybody was on the bandwagon then jumped off. I still believe Brooks can be a starting point guard one day, he is a gym rat and realizes he needs to get stronger. Nobody complains about Tony Parker size because it offsets with his many strengths.

I know us Rockets fans can tend to get impatient, i.e., FIRE ADELMAN!!!, when things aren't going the way we like when we like them to.

Truth is, Aaron Brooks was a little bit of a disappointment last season, but I can easily forgive him considering he never had many opportunities on the hardwood, and whenever he did, he did occasionally blow past a defender and do a nice layup that made me jump out of my seat.

In other words, I'd be more worried if he played brilliantly his rookie year and then gradually get worse through the seasons *cough* Luther Head *cough*.

This way, he knows what he needs to work on and improve in those categories. Most importantly, there's room for him to improve.

I think he's just lacking confidence.

TP is at least 3 inches taller, that's average PG size.

Err guys don't forget Brooks is a late first rounder and a rookie, you can't expect him to play like CP3 in his first season

brooks isn't anywhere near starting point guard material. in fact, until now he owes us the proof that he's anywhere near first backup material.

we desperately need another quality backup pg or we'll have to hope that barry can handle this role. the bottom line is that rafer shouldn't be playing more than 32 minutes per game and that there should be another option for the stretches rafer's shot is off. right now, brooks isn't that option.

wow. People act as if Brooks has played for 5 years(Even though it feels like it). This is going to be Brooks sophomore year. Give him a chance.

Post All-Star break (ie - 20 of his 51 games)

    Brooks shot 41.7% from 3pt land (0.8 from 1.8)

44.3% from the field overall is a decent clip for a PG

And 87.5 % from the line is a real good number.

Depth chart at the 1 and 5 is a worry.

    Everything in between is covered.
