So... basically Cuban is lowballing Josh Howard with MLE money and Howard is upset because he still thinks "Me and DWade cancel each other out"

I'd pay him no more than 40 mil... Tayshaun Prince is a better player.

The part about the lowball offer. It hasn't turned ugly yet, but has potential to be.

This just shows you Cuban will no longer throw money around if he doesn't have to. He's stuck with Dampier until 10/11 and just gave Dirk and Jason Terry big raises. He's still paying Michael Finley an insane $36MM over the next 2 years. The Mavs' cap figure for this season is $93MM!

Howard's contract comes up at a bad time for the team's salary situation. If he can't suck it up this year too bad for him. If he continues improving, Cuban will take care of him next summer. Hopefully for us, it will be a distraction and ruin their team chemistry.

    It's a misleading thread title.

Howard does seem a little immature in the matter, however.

Howard is an overrated player if there ever was one. He is probably just below Ben Wallace when it comes to getting too much hype for his game. He's not even in Prince's class when it comes to defense. However, just to spite the Mavs I hope he chucks up jumpers all year to blow up his stats.

I would love to see that entire team implode this season.

Yeah... sorry for the misleading title. :p

As for Howard, I think he's a good player, but he seems to think he's at D.Wade's level.

Howard definetely has an over inflated opinion of his ability.

He gets a free run with the Mavs and suits thre style of play. Is freed up by Dirk and Terry etc.

put him on a slightly lesser team, with a bit more defensive attention ratcheted up on him, he's struggle.

heavens against any Wade comparison - that really doesnt even need mentioning.

Maybe I'm the only one who actually thinks he deserves Tayshan Prince type money. He's a Shane Battier with an offensive game.

Maybe its Detroits system, maybe it's the Mavs system, but whatever the case, the base stats agree with me, including the defensive stats (steals, blocks), where Howard is superior. And they both have similiar PER stats, too, with Tayshan's being a little higher.

It's not Howard's fault the Mavs are overpaying some players.

He's certainly no Dwayne Wade, but he's good, and isn't asking for Dwayne Wade type money.

I don't really see how this is really going head to head, negotiations usually go this way, with one side going high, the other low. Howard isn't as good as Prince, I'm sure if Detroit offered a trade Cuban would do it in a heartbeat. My guess is he'll get something like 5 yrs. 40 mil

Technically for him, Darko got a championship before either of them got to the finals.

He should keep his mouth shut when he's talking about "oh, I was the other one in my class to get to the finals", it's disrespectful to LeBron, Carmelo, Bosh, and even Hinrich. If he isn't trying to imply anything, then why bring it up in the first place?

    Nice perspective.

I guess Howard will be forced to settle for less money, because again, the Mav's salary cap is not looking so hot right now. For him, I guess it will come down to either leaving the Mavs for mo' money or taking a lesser salary and staying with the Mavs. My guess is the later. Which is not that great for us Rockets I guess.

Speaking of Mark Cuban, did anyone catch Donald Trump on Donny Deutch this week? Trump totally rips Cuban. The best of which was Trump calling Cuban a neandrathal while juxtaposed with clips of Cuban acting like an ass at Mavs games. Oh and The Donald also said the Mavs would never win because Cuban is a loser. I wish I could find a clip of the interview... it's good stuff.

Cuban does act crazy, but I think he is far more intellingent than Trump. Cuban is actually very smart guy, Trump has been living off his name and early success for a long time.
