I got an HD-Ready TV and am thinking of getting TWC HD service for the upcoming football season. Anyone have this? Thoughts? worth it? Is HD badass like I heard? I've never really seen it.

As I understand it you pay an additional $7/month for the box and get

    Free with box
    295 TNT HD (Standard)
298 HDTV - iN HD (Digital Value)
    299 HDTV - iN HD2 (Digital Value)
    301 HDTV - Discovery (Standard)
    305 HDTV - KHWB WB 39 (Basic)
    308 HDTV - KUHT PBS 8 (Basic)
    309 HDTV - KRIV FOX 26 (Basic)
    311 HDTV - KHOU CBS 11 (Basic)
    312 HDTV - KPRC NBC 2 (Basic)
    313 HDTV - KTRK ABC 13 (Basic)

    $5/month for these
    290 HDNET (HD Plus)
    291 HDNET Movies (HD Plus)
    292 ESPN HD (HD Plus)
    293 Universal HD (HD Plus)

HDTV without cable is badass enough for me. MLB, NASCAR and NFL on FOX and most of the prime time shows, along with PBS, are on HDTV. No need for cable. I hear that HDTV through cable is nothing to worry about, since it's related to the comparisons of DISH vs. CABLE because of the interruptions due to weather, and I experience those because it's with an amplified antenna and an HD receiver. HDTV is badass. I saw my first SOCCER game on HDTV on ABC this past JUNE. Enjoy.

I already have TWC so I would just be adding the HD part.

micah1j, if you already have TWC, and a cable box, swap out that cable box for an HD cable box. Nothing extra, you just gotta swap them.

5 bucks for the "ESPN package" *cough* I mean HD Plus.

I better have Sundays off during football season. Ooooh baby that's gonna rock.

It took them long enough to just get regular ESPN and they charged extra for it...

    This is a no-brainer.

The only thing better than HD would HD + DVR.

I stopped watching all the non-HD channels a year ago (except for Stewart and Colbert)

    Do it. You'll love it.

i have TWC HD service with a DVR (in austin) and i love it. the two biggest issues are: they don't carry ESPN2HD and you cannot get the NFL package (it's a DirectTV deal.) also, in austin, TWC "down-converts" the ABCHD signal, so the picture on that channel is the worst of all the HD channels.

    good luck.

Stay away from the HD DVR boxes from TW Houston until August, there is a bug in 80% of the HD DVR boxes that causes them to crash and freeze. After this month they *should* have released an update for all the boxes not just the 2.4 version :( I have 2 of the non 2.4 version and mine freezes all the time

The day TIVO releases a cable card compatible TIVO I will be all over it, but for now I have to deal with this crap...

Actually, I noticed last week that HDNet(Ch. 290) is part of the basic HD package now. Too bad I have to pay extra if I want HDNet Movies. I'd love to see 2001 in high def.

How are your cable box/receiver connected to your HDTV? i.e. HDMI, Component Video, DVI etc..

HDMI here. The only problem is that you have to manually turn off/on the HDMI connection if you want the speakers from your TV on instead of sound from your audio reciever.

The HD box from Time Warner only has DVI, so I use a DVI-to-HDMI cable. The lady at the service center said the HD DVR boxes have HDMI inputs, but no DVI which means I'll have to get another cable if I ever upgrade.
