    Ok, here’s the deal...

Since TV prices have really dropped over the years, I am going to treat myself and I am looking to get rid of my old 27" CRT tube TV in my exercise room and get a new 4K LCD TV. I have looked around online at some charts that recommend what size to get compared to how far away you will be while watching it. They make general sense, but I am still unclear what to make of the distances when consider the “content.” 4K has a recommended distance size….but what if the content is 1080i Cable? How does that factor in?

For me, I am trying to decide between a 43” or 49.” The price difference between the two sizes isn’t that huge so it is not a big deal. And I have the room for both sizes on a piece of furniture.

My use case, I will be on a treadmill most of the time and the TV will be around 5.5FT from viewing distance. And be slightly off to the right. TV level will be at eye level, which actually will be nice because before the TV was lower than eye level. TV content will be Xfinity HD Cable TV and HD AppleTV content. Mostly watching sports. NBA League Pass and the Rockets! I am likely not going to be watching Blu-rays on this.

What I am trying to decide, is if 49” will be too big for the viewing distance. I don’t want to see TV compression artifacts. Should that be a concern? The TV is 4K, but the content is generally Cable 1080i content.

I know either way, the jump from a 27” tube TV to a 43/49 4K TV will be massive. I can’t wait. And I know the 43” will be sufficient, but since the price from the 43 and 49 is not that big, I am wondering from a value perspective if I should take advantage of the bigger screen. I am probably over thinking this. But this is what I do. LOL.

Any suggestions or anything else I should consider?

You're over thinking it. Its your exercise room, not your entertainment room. You could probably pick up a used 1080p for cheap. If you buy new, you can just return it if you dont like it.

don't need a tv to exercise!

i'd go smaller honestly. replaced our old tv in the bedroom, went from a 45" to a 28" smart tv. having a big tv in a smaller room is obnoxious.
