Another promising Sci-Fi show premiered yesterday. What did you guys/gals think? I got a distinct "Jericho" vibe from the premier episode. I'm interested in the mysteries and characters presented. I hope, with only 13 episodes this season they get into the mysteries quickly not the what-are-we-going-to-do-now-that-there-is-no-water-pressure episodes. There is a lot of mediocre scifi tv on right now (Defiance, Falling Skies, Revolution) and only a couple intriguing shows (Continuum, Warehouse 13). lets hope this turns out to be one of the good ones.
It has potential, but I thought the 1st episode was both too short, and too focused on "setting up" the future episodes. And, without giving away anything, the police chief, seemingly a smart guy, ended up about as dumb as... a cow. Still, I'll be watching it.

I was glad when I heard about that yesterday. The book as a whole was decent, but its ending was absolutely terrible. The pilot was decent and the show has potential so I'll give it a few more episodes. The acting of some of the characters was poor though.
Wow i have the exact oposite opinion. I really didn't like warehouse 13 and continuum. I sort of likes falling skies, altough we stopped watching, and we do like revolution. I haven't seen the first episode. But I'm going to watch it.
I didn't have a problem with the book's ending, what did you guys didn't like about it? Spoiler tag it please in consideration for others. Overall, I thought it was just an ok book by King. I thought he could've done more with the premises.
Watched it last night. I wanted to get in from the beginning in case it turned out to be a hit. Didn't want to miss the boat like I always seem to do with all these other shows people talk about. I liked it. Some of the acting was horrible. The psycho ex-boyfriend made Hayden Christensen look like Robert Deniro, for instance. But I still want to tune in to see where this is all going. Haven't read the book, so I'm going in totally cold. Which is probably a good thing.
I can understand people not liking Warehouse 13. It is silly sci-fi; but it isn't trying to be something it's not. I put it on par with Eureka; it's just fun. I think you should give Continuum another try though; It might be slow in the beginning but it gets good. The people we are supposed to be rooting against are fighting for a better future even though they are without a doubt terrorists. It makes you think what our heroine is really fighting for. She doesn't even realize that she is protecting people now but dooming them to a future that strips them of all their rights as citizens and put them solely in the hands of corporations. She is trying to stop these terrorist that are trying to save the future just so she can hitch a ride back to her time that might not even still be there since she has all ready changed the past OR is the past that she is changing now really her future that shapes her present (our future) that would kind of make her the bad guy... see!! this show is CHIPOTCRAY! All that and I haven't even gotten into the real "timey-wimeyness" that pervades the show! I watch Revolution, but man, is it awful. I will watch terrible scifi because at any moment it could turn on its head and be something truly amazing; don't see that happening with revolution though. It's a chore to watch, but a push through.
Same reaction here, watched it last night and it was ok. Feels very CBS which isn't a great thing but I'll watch since it's kind of a dead zone for shows the wife and I follow. This is supposed to be a limited series correct? As in it ends with the last episode of the summer?
I'm not even clear if I recollect the ending of the book very well but here goes: Spoiler Not sure I exactly recall the ending as was pretty forgettable imo but I think it was something like...some children aliens from another world were playing and chose to put the dome over this city (as they had the power to do so) as part of their game to see how it would play out (akin to an ant farm scenario). somehow, the humans were able to tap into that source of power from under the dome and communicate back to them to somehow convey to them to stop what they are doing and end their little experiment. but, about the same time, a huge fire broke out that enveloped everything under the dome. most people under the dome perished due to the fire consuming what remained of the oxygen and from the fire itself. however, a select few near the dome wall were able to survive by lying down and breathing what little air was left. about that time, the dome was lifted. in the end, it all felt kind of silly when said and done as far as the alien thing. but, i felt the book was more about the various good and bad characters...and how they ended up behaving and conducting themselves as the crises deepened. i seem to recall all the bad people ended up dead. the book succeeded as far as character development...as this is what Stephen King is really good at. the dome was the setting but the characters made the story and, from that standpoint, i think it succeeded.
From my recollection, what you said IS how it ended. Spoiler My guess is that King have no other way to explain why the dome is there without getting political. As you said, the point of the story wasn't about who/why they were housed in, but how people behave in that environment, so the alien thing was just a minor point. Have you read The Cell, he never did explain how/why the outbreak occurred, because it wasn't important. I guess he had to explain why the dome was lifted at the end in this story, so he had to come up with something to explain why it was there in the first place. Serious question, what other explanation would you think would've been a better one than the alien kid? I've find most of King's endings to be under whelming. I wasn't too happy with the ending of the Dark Towers saga, although I love the series as a whole.
Kind of funny that Dean Norris (Breaking Bad's Hank)... SPOILER WARNING Spoiler is in charge of a meth operation if they follow the book.
