Anyone watch the premier? I thought it was really good. Will Forte was hilarious. Spoiler Kristen Schaal is great, too. Didn't want to have that out there and ruin the 2nd episode for those that haven't seen it yet. Really looking forward to where they go with this.
Are there other people on the show? That may be a stupid question or condition for watching a TV show, but I'd have a hard time sitting through it otherwise.
Yeah good choice to spoiler tag, even if it is just a casting. That was one of the best moments. I'm a fan of both, but was a little let down with the first episode. Just wish it wasn't so heavy handed with the repetitive cliche guy & girl stereotypes. I hate to see forte doing that stuff, even as crazy as a scenario as it was. I wish he was either much crazier, or just super normal if that makes sense, just not like he was. I'll keep watching though, for those two.
I would just watch the first hour. It's good but I have no idea how they are going to make this a multi season show.
Uh oh. People don't like spoilers in a thread discussing the show. I have no idea why. I'm not good at spoiler math. Massive spoiler though.
Spoiler You had me panicked, rereading my post, but I can't figure out what it was I should have spoiler tagged. From now on in any tv series thread, just as a matter of course I'll be spoilering my entire post.
I absolutely hate spoiler tags in a thread discussing episodes that have already aired Spoiler but in this case I think not knowing what happens adds to the enjoyment. I said massive spoiler because nothing in the trailers or name of the show leads us to believe that there will be another person in this show. So when you say "both" and "guy & girl" I thought that was pretty spoiler-ish. Maybe knowing made it jump out at me. I went in not knowing if there was going to be another person in the show. How are they going to make a show with only Forte talking to himself? when Kristen Schaal shows up I was pretty surprised. Don't beat yourself up about it though. People who cry about spoilers are insufferable.
Well, there was a pretty immediate payoff with that Kinks song which I hadn't heard in probably decades. Glad I didn't click any spoilers earlier and very satisfied with the additional parameters. Spoiler Honestly, the dialogue could be Portlandia-level quality with these too. This is still very experimental and could evaporate in a couple of weeks due to numbers or reviews: I could also see people just being grossed out by the aesthetics.
I saw the first hour and it was entertaining but I just don't see how they can maintain the premise for more than a few shows. Spoiler The one thing I did like about it was a typical twist on the Last Man on Earth genre. Usually those like in The Omega Man and I am Legend the man is very capable and rather than falling apart focus on surviving and trying to find a way to bring back humanity. The women who survive are also very capable and of course good looking. I liked the twist of a typical slacker and mousy woman being the last man and women. Two people who aren't that capable and most likely would be what many Americans would be like if they found themselves as the last people on Earth.
"...and this is my margarita pool." "You swim in that?" "Swim in it, drink it, there's really no wrong way to use a margarita pool"
Good God it was funny. I have no idea how it's going to last. It's beyond good right now. I'll watch it until it falls apart.
Like Forte and Kristen Schaall, it is beautifully strange. Probably just should have been a movie though.
Is it safe to talk about You-Know-Who yet, without needing to spoiler-tag it? I adore YKW. 30 Rock, Bob's Burgers, Gravity Falls. Would watch YKW in anything / voice anyone. This type of premise / show is usually explored by some philosophical drama / "The Walking Dead" pacing. But to manage to have it be more comedy than drama is refreshing. I think they're going to have to introduce more characters though. Not that I don't think YKW and Forte can carry the show, but I think it would be fun to explore the dynamic of "hey, we got more people with different personalities. what can we do with this?" The preposition back-and-forth was by far my favorite part. "There is nothing to be afraid of." "Nothing of WHICH to be afraid!"
Agreed. Would make for a good bill murray/groundhog day type movie. Can't see this show having a long run. Unless they have many plot twisters like aliens, robot takeover, Dharma Initiative type experiment, planet of the ape style enemies. Could have endless cheesy plots.....
