There was a thread here on this but I could not find it. I think the device is called Slingbox.

My question is does it work off of your tv reception (cable, sattelite etc) or work indepenently?

    http://www.slingmedia.com

Funny you should say that because I read their website all of 5 minutes ago. Works with Satellite, Cable, DVR, etc.

For $250 it better work really well.

I guess someone could get it and sell for $10 rights to log in and watch the rockets games all year to all the non Houston people. That would make the price back. :)

If someone's gonna pay 10 dollars per game, I can do this without needing this little contraption.

Won't work. Only one person can access the stream at one time.

If I read this correctly, it doesn't provide cable/satelitte. It just allows you to watch whatever programming you have in your home, on any computer in the world (Provided you have broadband internet on both ends). It's certainly useful for travelers, who want to watch their local programming, but for out-of-towners that want to watch Rocket games, you're out of luck.

You want a free version? Not willing to shell out $250?

    USE ORB!

    http://www.orb.com

You can stream photos, movies, and LIVE tv with it from your home pc to any other pc around the world....FREE.

...for live tv you do need a tuner card, but those are much cheaper than the $250 slingbox.

I stream 70 channels of cable to my father who is in saudi, and he has the ability to change the channels etc too. ORB rules!

We were about to get Slingbox, until we heard about ORB. Orb was the better decision.

You know if Slingbox allows you to change the channels as well, and is there any difference in streaming quality b/t the two?

I haven't used slingbox, but my buddy got it for his dad who is also working over seas. he says the quality is good.

With orb, the streaming is as good as the video feed off your pc. If you have a movie etc. on your pc (hard drive) and you watch it, it will be the exact same quality on the other end for the other person. (as long as both connections are broadband).

I have a bunch of tv shows and movies in xvid and divx, and I've tested the program with myself before sending the link to my friends and family. The quality is the same as if you were watching it on your pc.

The only real difference between the two is that one of the "products" (I use quotes because ORB is free) is hardware (a black box you set on top of your tv) and the other is just software which you only have to install on your HOME PC that is streaming.

With orb, you can stream to cell phones, PDA's etc. Their software is only needed on the home pc, and the other device (pc or pda etc...) doesn't need to have anything downloaded. You just log onto your free account on orb.com and there is the list of channels you have or folders of movies etc.

Slingbox, doesn't plug into your home pc. Instead, it has its own ethernet jack and cord that goes straight into your HUB. It plugs into you pc etc.

I chose ORB over SlingBox, because of the price attached. Hell, I pretty much was just seeing if ORB was for real. If it didn't work, I was going to get SlingBox....but man, I've been more than pleased, and so has my dad (who is in Saudi and is streaming off my cable tv.)

    NO prob man.

Give ORB a try. If you don't have a tuner card just try it with some video files on your hard drive.

    It's a great program.

Why cant somebody just get a damn webcam, and put it infront of their tele, and show Rocket games like that?

It wouldn't pick up the tv clearly. IIRC, pointing a camera at a monitor makes it show all the lines and the screen moving, something to do with the refresh rate or something.
