New HBO series produced by Mark Wahlberg on Sundays at 9. There was a lot of hype around it before the premiere but it died down a bit. A lot of critics explained the show to be like Entourage before Vince got famous. Has anyone been watching it? What are your impressions after the first two episodes?
Yea, I suppose there are a few similarities. In all honestly, the first two episodes have been a little slow (much like Entourage started), but there is plenty of potential. I'd give it a try if I were you. http://www.poptower.com/news/9380/how-to-make-it-in-america-hbo-tv-show.htm NEW YORK, NY — Production has begun in New York on "How to Make It in America," starring Bryan Greenberg ("Prime," HBO's "Unscripted"), Victor Rasuk ("Lords of Dogtown," "Raising Victor Vargas"), Luis Guzman ("Anger Management," HBO's "OZ"), Lake Bell ("Boston Legal," "What Happens in Vegas") and hit recording artist Scott "Kid Cudi" Mescudi ("Day and Night," "Poke Her Face"). "How to Make It in America" follows two enterprising Brooklyn twentysomethings as they hustle their way through New York City, determined to achieve the American Dream. Trying to make a name for themselves in New York's competitive fashion scene, Ben Epstein (Greenberg) and his friend and business partner Cam Calderon (Rasuk) use their street knowledge and connections to bring their ambitions to fruition. With the help of Cam's cousin Rene (Guzman), who is trying to market his own high-energy drink, and their well-connected friend Domingo ("Kid Cudi"), the burgeoning entrepreneurs set out to make it big, encountering obstacles along the way that will require all their ingenuity to overcome. "How to Make It in America" also stars Lake Bell as Ben's ex-girlfriend Rachel, who is concentrating on her own career and a new relationship; Martha Plimpton ("Beautiful Girls," "200 Cigarettes") as Rachel's boss Edie, an eccentric interior designer; Shannyn Sossamon ("40 Days and 40 Nights," "The Holiday") as Gingy, Ben and Cam's artsy friend; and Eddie Kaye Thomas ("Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist," "American Pie") as David Kaplan, a successful hedge fund manager and high school friend of Ben's. Creator and first-time writer Ian Edelman is collaborating with Emmy nominee Rob Weiss ("Entourage") on many of the show's scripts. The pilot and other episodes of the show are being directed by Julian Farino. Additional writers and directors will be announced as they are confirmed. "How to Make It in America" is produced by HBO Entertainment; executive producers, Stephen Levinson, Rob Weiss, Ian Edelman, Julian Farino, Jada Miranda and Mark Wahlberg; producer, Jane Raab.
I don't like Cam as of now. He just talks alot of noise and thinks he can BS his way out of anything. Last nights show proved that they are in over their head with this denim line. Business Plan... um, no. Financial backing... um, no. Pattern cuts...what are those? These guys know ****e about making jeans. but Cam is hyping up like their fashion gurus or something. Of course the show will somehow take a turn to where these guys hit a lucky break.
I had dinner at that exact same table/booth at Freeman's they were sitting at with John Varvatos in last night's ep a few weeks ago. Varvatos was not there. NAME DROPPED.
I've watched all 6 episodes so far and it's pretty good - fastpaced and tight story that keeps the viewer entertained. You wanna see the kids succeed. It's not just an Entourage clone (although I wouldn't mind if it was)
I like the show. It's not quite as good as Entourage was in its first 2 or 3 seasons but it's still solid. I hate Marky Mark but I gotta give him his props.
