I just watched all three seasons of this show over the last week. My expectations weren't all that high, so I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It is well-written and the acting is top notch. The characters are really likable and the show's writers do a good job making sure there are plenty of fight scenes and explosions. If you aren't watching this show, I recommend you do so. Season Four starts in early June.
I used to be really into this show. I mean really, really into it (I'd read Burn Notice reviews, check out BN forums, try to get my friends into the show etc.). But during the middle of the most recent half-season (in January/February) I started getting really annoyed with some aspects of the show. I really wasn't feeling the most recent bad guy, err not the one in the finale but the one before him. The show has given us some great moments and scenes (like when Michael jumped out of that helicopter) but it always seems like the continuing "burn notice" storylines end up being less than the sum of their parts. In the moment the episodes are exciting and entertaining but if you look back at those story arcs, you'll find that not a whole lot as actually been accomplished. So it kind of feels like the show is just spinning it's wheels. But it was actually the client-of-the-week parts that annoyed me the most. I'm not sure why it didn't bug me before, but I started getting really annoyed by how mawkish and sentimental these storylines were. The show basically has no subtlety and Michael is constantly helping out the cable tv equivalent of widows and orphans. That one ep where he helps out the gangbanger with a heart of gold was especially embarrassing. I still watch the show. And I still really like the characters; Michael, Fiona, Sam, Michael's mom. They've all got great chemistry together in their different pairings. But I'm not obsessed with the show anymore. I can sort of take it or leave it at this point.
you ever see those ads for drama shows like "burn notice" and say to yourself who watches burn notice? HARRIS watches burn notice! Spoiler can't remember exact quote
It's a nice show. But the whole blowing things up every week in Miami and getting paid much less than the munitions cost got annoying on my brain. It's weird, some shows I can ignore the improbabilities and lack of logic. Others, like Burn Notice, I can't for some reason. Which was why I stopped watching a while back. A shame, because the main characters are all pretty cool.
