I am looking to buy a new piece of furniture for my AV setup. I need something that is for my 40" TV, has plenty of room for components, and possibly has space for a center speaker. Does anyone know a good store for entertainment/media furniture in Houston? I am not looking for the cheapest option but I am not really looking to spend 2k on this either. My wife greatly prefers an armoire but I can do a more simple (and smaller) console so that is why I put both in the title. I like to examine and touch furniture in person so I am a bit hesitant for anything online. Thanks for any help or suggestions.
Mrs. SwoLy and I went to Star Furniture on I-10 and Park Ten, and they had MANY armories, most of them solid wood, with nice engravings and nice additional features like sliding folding doors, etc. Most are on the 2nd floor of the showroom, but they do run close to about $2k. They're worth EVERY penny. Their quality seems really good.
Put up some images of consoles and armoires that fit your style. Pretty difficult to know without some idea.
I don't really have images or one "must have" style. Just looking for simple and brown. I like Walnut and darker woods (don't want reds involved) and clean lines, minimal to no ornamentation. I like the wood grain to provide pattern or ornament. In a trditional sense it would be like arts and crafts style - something like that. When I get "crazy" I go towards Federal style - but they don't make entertainment furniture like that and if they did it would be crazy expensive so that is only meant to be illustrative of me not liking bulky furniture that is overly ornate.
I was just looking at this one from Pier One last night and thought it looked good. $349. Is that too minimalist for you?
nah, that is too black (and looks a little light on top) and probably not big enough in the console area - and wide open. I forgot that is another wife issue - she doesn't want exposed components. Thanks for the effort, though. You are right - visual aids help focus this kind of thing.
