For those of you all that are unaware the Tux & Tennies is an event put on by the Houston Rockets organization annually to raise money for charity. The Rockets auction off sports related memorobilia and you can purchase tickets to sit with your choice of a Rockets player or coach (if you have alot of extra money).

Here is some info on this years event

I haven't heard much hype about this year's Tux & Tennies.

Anybody remember this pic from last year's event:

Sad to see the look on Eddie's face. That guy is depressing. Tito Maddux looks very...well nevermind (if you don't have anything nice to say...).

Anybody have any pics of this year's event so far. I'm sure Jeff Van Gundy wouldn't allow the Rockets to have fun like this. ;)

Also all players are allowed to bring one of their own guests. It looks like last year Yao brought along Colin. Here is another pic from last year of Yao and Colin

I wonder if Yao will have his girlfriend in town for the event.

If anyone on the BBS has the opportunity to go this year I would love to hear a recap. Thanks in advance. :)

I'm going. What, the rest of you aren't going to be there?

We do raise a lot of money through this through a combination of table sales and a merchandise auction. The auction selection has actually grown to be one of the more impressive ones anywhere.

This year the money is going to Search to fund a program that helps the homeless develop job skills so they can get back on their feet. It's a model program that organizations from a lot of other cities have looked at, but Search lost their federal funding for the program this year due to cutbacks. This will keep a great program going.

We spent a lot of time the last several weeks interviewing a number of people who have participated in the program so that we can put together a video feature about it ... pretty hard not to be supportive when you hear what they've been through and how much they've turned their lives around. Good stuff. It's one of the very rewarding things about being part of this organization.

    A recommendation for the future:

Let people know what it costs. As it turned out I had other
plans for the evening, but I had to search far and wide to
find out the cost of attending.

A link for Tux and Tennies is on the www.rockets.com home page. The link gives you a phone number to call for more information and another link that gives the full menu of prices for the event.

Or you could just call the Rockets office at 713-627-DUNK and someone would transfer you to a Tux and Tennies representative.

If there's other ways we should use to let you know, feel free to offer them up. Always happy to get out the information.

bejezuz kind of beat me to the punch, but the question reminds me of the old cliche... if you have to ask the price, you can't afford it. "Charity Gala" is all you have to say to tell me its out of my range (which is too bad, I'd love to help).

Tim, I think it's fantastic that y'all are helping SEARCH this year. I got a chance last year to learn more about their operation and it's a good example of the Hand Up vs. Hand Out approach to charity.

They help people who are down on their luck, and just need an opportunity to turn things around, get back on their feet. Sorry to hear they lost their federal funding, though... that's sad.
