Turns out the Matt Bonner 3 WOULD have counted if it went in

[rquoter]I have received a clarification from the NBA office on Matt Bonner's shot at the end of Sunday's game. It would have counted.

If the clock shows LESS than 0.3, then it can only be a tip-in or lob. It came about after a MLK Day game at Madison Square Garden in 1990 when the Knicks beat Michael Jordan's Bulls when Trent Tucker caught an inbounds pass near the baseline, spun and put up a 3-pointer -- all in an alleged 0.1 seconds -- for a 109-106 win

The Trent Tucker Rule: "The game clock must show :00.3 or more in order for a player to secure possession of the ball on a rebound or throw-in to attempt a field goal."

In other words, good thing Bonner's shot missed.[/rquoter]
Scola and the others need to learn how to properly miss free throws so this doesn't happen again. It's not that hard really. Move to the left or right side of the basket and then shoot straight. Shouldn't take more than a few minutes of practice to figure out an effective to do this.

That just means it COULD have counted.

I want to see a video, but I dont think Matt Bonner can catch and shoot in than .3 seconds.

I think Fisher with the Lakers beat SAS in the western conference finals 3 years back with a 00.3 seconds left as well.

Seriously, though, I felt some poo-poo in my pants when I saw the play again on my DVR. :( I thought he shot it with enough time, but then I didn't think the clock was started at the appropriate time. "That was a home clock, wasn't it?" - Worrell

I accept that is the rule, but what is interesting is that apparently the Orlando Magic didn't know the rule in the OT game against the Rockets in the 95 finals. Hakeem tipped in Clyde's miss leaving 0.3 on the clock and they did not attempt a shot. Both the Magic and the Rockets acted as if the only option was some inbounds pass to the rim where Shaq was lurking. Hakeem was having none of it, of course. It seems it would have been smarter to try to catch and shoot as the Magic had several quick releasers on their team. I think they didn't know the rule.

this makes me sick to my stomach. i dont care if we won or not...that took more than .3 seconds, and it should have been mandatorily reviewed and timed if he made it. clearly the timekeeper was going to make sure he got a shot off. that's just flat out cheating.

There is no way Bonner caught that in .3 and turned around and shot. They would have reviewed it and we still would have won.

It is possible, but he didn't get if off as quick as Fisher.

This is why HCA is so important in the playoffs.

i am almost positive that time keepers for the playoffs are set by the league and are not employees of either of the teams.

still way too much human error in that you can imagine a neutral person being affected by the crowd and probably wanting the "Drama" to be there for a last second shot
