...yesterday. I'm going south on i45, a couple miles past Dickinson around 830AM and see flashing lights in my rear view mirror. I look a little closer and there are a several cops about a mile back, spread out across the highway. The cops get a little closer then all of them exit on Palmer Highway. I'm by the Dog Track at this point and look over and there are cops speeding down the feeder road backwards. Fast forward to today and I see this article. Pretty crazy.

GALVESTON — A Galveston County constable fired a shotgun during a chase that topped 100 mph Monday before learning that the driver was accompanied by a 15-year-old girl.

No one was injured and the driver, Kermic Ray Gamble, was subdued with a Taser and arrested after he abandoned the car in Texas City and tried to run, according to Texas City Police Chief Robert Burby.

    Charges are pending.

Burby was not sure whether Gamble, 17, and the girl were from La Marque or Texas City. Their relationship was unclear on Monday.

    Stolen Yukon

The chase began shortly after police received a call at 8:31 a.m. from a Texas City man who saw someone driving his wife's GMC Yukon that had been reported stolen. The man, whose name police did not release, followed the Yukon to a residence in Texas City. The Yukon driver entered the residence, but quickly returned to the SUV and drove away.

The vehicle owner followed until police arrived and tried to stop the Yukon.

Gamble refused to stop, authorities said, and led police on a chase that reached 110 mph on the highway and 60 to 90 mph through residential streets in Dickinson and Texas City.

At one point during the chase Constable Michael Montez fired a shotgun round at the tire of the Yukon because he believed his life was in danger. Burby was unable to supply details, but said the reason for the weapon discharge was under investigation.

    Girl escapes

After the shotgun was fired, the 15-year-old girl called her father, who called police. A dispatcher then called the girl and told her to tell the driver to surrender to police.

The chase continued, but at 8:58 a.m. Texas City police were ordered to break off the chase and continue following the Yukon.

Police by this time had learned the driver's identity and feared that the high speeds and reckless driving could endanger the public.

The girl was able to get out of the Yukon at about 9:15 a.m. Burby said it was unclear how she got out.

    Tracked by a dog

The driver abandoned the car at 14th Street N. and Second Avenue S. in Texas City and police gave chase on foot.

Police used a dog to track the driver to a vacant upstairs apartment in the 1200 block of Third Avenue N. at 9:47 a.m., Burby Said. Officers used a Taser on Gamble after he refused to comply with their orders, Burby said.
