Random question, but my quick googling isn't helping. I have a lamp in a middle of a room. We are running it to the wall outlet and it works fine... EXCEPT that it is unsightly, and gets in the way. I do not have the ability to create an in ground plug. What I need is either a third party plug-in portable type device, powered by batteries, to plug the lamp into, or a way to either turn the lamp, or the lightbulb, into battery powered. Anyone seen anything like that?
It would be better to modify the lamp than to convert the power. To convert the power you would need an inverter and batteries. That will be expensive, large and heavy. Basically an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) battery backup thing. Converting the lamp to run on batteries would depend on what type of lamp it is. Is it a halogen tube type bulb, or a screw in? Oh yeah, the thing to google would be 12V lamp. that is what you will eventually need. then a Sealed Lead Acid battery to run it and a cheap charger.
What watt bulb do you usually run in it? You might need to be more realistic about light output capability of a battery and runtime.
This is a table lamp that my wife uses all the time. We don't need more ceiling lights. This is a at night table lamp that produces a soft glow, but still keeps the room relatively dark aside from the one area, where she'll sit under and maybe read, or work on a craft while watching a show, or while i watch the Rockets I'm happy to just not have it at all, but it is what it is. The cord is ugly, and gets in the way of games I play with my son. as a result, i am constantly unplugging it and plugging it back in. I'm not looking for something that is run off a decent sized battery or anything. if there's no way to do it, there's no way to do it. I thought I had seen an innovative light bulb that was battery powered but you could still screw into a socket... kind of a "trick" if you will, but can't seem to find?
You mean you don't want a large battery? If you tell me the current wattage of the bulb I could give you are real good idea how much dimmer it would be on battery. The larger the battery, the more light and more time between charging. Basically you would need a battery, charger, and a new bulb. Probably LED.
It comes down to how much are you willing to spend. More cash gets you a smaller battery that can handle a brighter bulb, run longer, and charge faster. The cheapest route would be a SLA battery that would take 6-10 hours to charge and offer less light and less runtime. So the thing to do is think about how much are you willing to spend total to run it on batteries, THEN see if that amount buys you what you could actually live with performance wise. People really under estimate how much energy they use when compared to battery power.
A couple of options you can use. 1. Use a.microwave powered light. Point a microwave source at the lamp and boom. you have light. 2. Use a exercise bike w built in power generator to power the lamp. Pedal faster if you need more light.
