Boys and Girls the Astros just do not have what it takes....whether that is pitching, hitting, or managing by voodoo, this team is going to fall faster then lead balloon. 2 loses to a crap team like Cincinatti.....bad coaching...bad team play, and horrible hitting. I was hoping against hope that they would find a way to get into the playoffs, but looking at the Cubs schedule and ours, and how the Cubs have gotten better while the Stros sat on their hands....just shows that lack of committment from Drayton on down to winning at all costs. Biggio has to go....and take Jimy Williams with you. Why he does not stick Ensberg in there over a never was like Blum just amazes me....why he has not gotten Lidge to spot start.....because you don't need 2 flame throwing set up men. This team reminds me of the old Oilers....CHOKE !!! Bring on basketball season. DD
Wow, a negative Astros' post by DaDakota...amazing. It ain't over until it's over. We're still in first place despite it all.
DaDa is now going to have to wait another 2-3 mos, at least before he declares another local team's season over. 1 down, 2 to go.
Nah, he can probably already call the Texans' season over...I give him until the second week of November for him pronouncing the Rockets dead.
I just hate the Astros makeup. They have some good young talent and some veterans that should be on the bench instead of major contributors. Also, Jimy Williams is less than Dierk. However, the ROCKETS I am very hopeful for....I am not a fan of the Texans....was the biggest Oiler fan then followed the Titans for a while...but now...don't watch pro football, and find that Sundays are great when you are not glued to the tube. DD
You remember what happened the last time someone declared a group to fall as fast as a lead balloon? It ain't over til it's over. What bothers me the most about posts like this is, when I read over them, I get this distinct impression that you are enjoying it. It pisses me off to read, quite frankly.
2 loses to a crap team like Cincinatti.....bad coaching...bad team play, and horrible hitting. Well, crap, I guess Chicago losing 2 of 3 to a horrible team like the Astros says they suck pretty bad too, eh? Why he does not stick Ensberg in there over a never was like Blum just amazes me.... You mean the Ensberg who has 1 RBI and no HRs this month? And the Blum who has 7? why he has not gotten Lidge to spot start.....because you don't need 2 flame throwing set up men. Because Jimy's not stupid enough to try messing with a young, oft-injured pitcher's arm.
I agree about Blum Da. I've never been a fan of his. He is scum clogging up the Astros drain. He's just a utility player that does not produce when it counts. Blum does two things consistenly: flying out and grounding out. The Astros got rid of one big problem in Zaun, now they need to get rid of their other problem, Blum and get Ensberg more playing time, and the Astros will be better off. I would feel real good about the Astros if they got rid of Biggio, but too many blind people in the organization still think he can play. I don't give on the Astros team, but as you can see, there are players I have given up on a long time ago. With players like Bagwell, Kent, Berkman (as long as he does not bat right handed), and dependable relievers in Dotel and Wagner (until the playoffs roll around),, I think the Astros got what it takes to get in. It's these players that give the Astros a chance at winning the division.
Yeah, Protect Lidge....because it is darned hard to find a guy who throws the ball for one inning every now and then and gets most people out. Give me a break. Put him in the rotation and see if he can pitch......At some point he has to sink or swim, and I hardly think pitching him 60 + times in one year is PROTECTING his arm. Major....Blum has more RBIs because he is PLAYING and Ensberg is sitting. Jimy is one of the most overated managers I have ever seen.....did you hear the announcers last night talking about Ensberg and why he was not playing? Jimy said he was going on a hunch.....sheesh. This team has no killer instinct...... Raven.....The post is not meant to piss you off, just meant to tell people that I think this team is dead.....and it pisses me off too, because I think another manager with the balls to bench non performers would have gotten more out of them. DD
Rob Dibble was on baseball tonight and said that the Astros have the worst defensive outfield in baseball. I think they have the worst centerfielder but not the entire outfield. Mike Cameron is a F.A. in the offseason and the Astros should be the first team to call him
How much will Cameron cost and would you be willing to bench the legend who is currently hitting .260? Not enough hitting or pitching this year. Right now, without Oswalt, Zambrano, the #4 guy for the Cubs, could be our ace. I don't know if this team has any heart either. They just don't seem to have the fire. Maybe they need Lima back.
just to nitpick zambrano is definitely not the #4 guy on the cubs. at worst he's their # 2 but a case could be made that he's been every bit as good as prior. either way though, with oswalt out and miller in a funk they do have 3 starters better than what we have. we are still in first place so the idea that it's over is kinda silly. i'm gonna just bank on the cubs imploding as usual and the cards have as many problems as we do.
This is a different Cubs team, and the Cards always seem to play with a swagger. I think the Cards have a better line up than we do.
you're right about the cubs, i gotta have some optimism though. the cards have a monster lineup which is the only reason they're in it. their rotation is about the same or worse than the 'stros and their bullpen is just plain bad. i really don't think any team can claim they've got this divison wrapped up.
Does anybody else think the Astros are looking like the Rockets last season...full of potential, good on paper...but utterly inconsistent and underachieving. One thing's different though: the Rockets actually showed some intensity and fire while the Astros, aside from a few Kent outburts and some homeplate dirt kicking by Williams, haven't displayed too much grit. And while there are in first place and the season's far from over (and neither the Cubs nor Cards are playing any better), will it really be worth anything if they actually make the playoffs by limping in and banking on other teams losing. I think not.
Give you a break? You act as if Lidge has never attempted to be a starter in his career, like this is some grand new idea that they haven't explored. He was trying to be a starter for the last 2-3 seasons before he came up as a reliever. He got injured, every.freaking.season. This is nothing new. They tried your experiment, it failed. He doesn't have the tenacity to be a starter. Just be happy that he is such a great reliever. Also, don't act like having a reliever as good as Lidge is a common place thing in the MLB. LOTS of teams would love to have a reliever as good as Lidge to be a setup man, let alone their 6-7 inning guy.
Protect Lidge....because it is darned hard to find a guy who throws the ball for one inning every now and then and gets most people out. Give me a break If it was so easy, why doesn't every team have 3 or 4 Lidge's? Put him in the rotation and see if he can pitch......At some point he has to sink or swim, and I hardly think pitching him 60 + times in one year is PROTECTING his arm. He's been in the rotation ... and he's gotten injured every single year. Major....Blum has more RBIs because he is PLAYING and Ensberg is sitting. Ensberg has more at-bats this month than Blum. Nice try, but looking up facts takes like 10 seconds if you actually want to try to present a reasonable argument instead of babbling. Jimy is one of the most overated managers I have ever seen.....did you hear the announcers last night talking about Ensberg and why he was not playing? Jimy said he was going on a hunch.....sheesh. And Blum went 4-8 with 3 runs scored in those two starts that he got on a "hunch". Yes, TERRIBLE move, Jimy! and it pisses me off too, because I think another manager with the balls to bench non performers would have gotten more out of them. That's basically what Jimy did with Ensberg and yet...
Yeah, thanks for the insight there, ZRB...errr...Turn....err...kidrock8....errr...um, who are you again?
I think Lidge has run out of gas as well. Maybe Jimy overworked him out of the bully, but I don't think being a spot starter would have helped any.
