Here is a recap of it. This is most of the important stuff that he said about Ming.
Karl: "I think he's a huge body that has an influance at both
ends of the court, he is a presence, he needs to learn how to push and shove and he is a pretty good shot blocker. He makes shots. He can get his shot up. he has a big upside. In our game he took the pumps well. He is impressive size wise. This guy so tall that you look back and go 'wow how can he be that big and is agile'. Right now he's as good as Shawn Bradley (what?), but he will get a lot better. I probably would've traded the first pick. He will take a few years to develope, he has tremendous upside, but I don't know if I'll have my job that long."

Heh, master of the obvious. Shawn Bradley is a "presense" too.

Karl would've traded the pick for a 300 pound ****** instead of 7 foot 19 yr old sharpshooting German...

Addition to it... those espn guys asked him.. Would you draft yao ming if you have the number one pick.. Karl's answer was No.....I probably would've traded the first pick....

Err, does Karl know the same Shawn Bradley that we all know and love?

Yeah I edited that in like 5 minutes before you posted your addition. :D. I can't believe that he thinks that Ming and Bradley are on the same level now. Bradley can't shoot like Ming and can't move at all.

I don't get it. First he makes comparisons of some aspects of Ming's game to Wilt's. Now he mentions Shawn Bradley. Just like the teams he's coached, Mr. Karl comes across as bewilderingly schizophrenic.

Nice job on the re-cap! I can't believe Karl (who I have always thought of as a smart guy/coach) said that Yao is "as good as Shawn Bradley is right now" Right now Yao is better than:

    S. Bradley
    P. Ewing
    G. Ostertag
    B. Reeves
    M. Olowkandi
    N. Mohammed
    P. Gausol
    A. Davis
    B. Wallace
    R. LaFrentz

And these are just the first group that comes to mind. I'm sure there are others that we could agree would fall behind the "MING DYNASTY" Wallace and LaFrentz are the only ones that even come close to Yao on this preliminary list. Maybe we need another thread to pose the question... I will leave the CC.NET protocol up you other guys
    :)

Honestly, what Karl would do holds little weight.

This guy isn't big on having rookies, and as he mentioned, he worries about job security. His rookie scouting eye isn't world reknowned- see "Dirk for Traylor".

Besides, as far as project centers go, I have 2 words-JOEL PRYZBILLA.

Ya know, Karl may be partly responsible for turning this Rockets team into an absolute wrecking ball-without the Collier-Billa trade, we don't have the ammo to get EG, and things probably turn out very different.

My guess on the Bradley comparison, is that he meant that as a 21 year old, coming from a different continent, he's as good as a Shawn Bradley in his prime if not better, and therefore isn't your run of the mill 7-6 guy.

Coach Karl is just posing. He's just saying this because he does't have Yao.
I mean, why hype up a guy that isn't on your team. Plus, I'm sure
he got some guff from people regarding his statements about Yao
and Wilt. So, now he's backtracking.

I wonder what Karl would be saying about Ming if he had him. He'd probably say that he is one of the top 3 center in the game at this point (which he might already be :D).

I saw the interview and it seemed that Karl was trying to use the Bradley comparison as a compliment. As in he is already as good as Bradley and going to get better. I did not take it to mean that he is only as good as Bradley.

I also believe the reason he would not have picked him number one was because he would have traded the pick for players that he thought would have given him immediate help. He did not sound like someone that had too much time left in Milwaukee.

Actually, George, it looks like he'll have developed pretty nicely by next year. And yet, in a remarkable vindication of your prescience, you'll be out of your job by then.

Part 1 and Part 2 are just not consistent with each other. Sounds like comments by two different persons. Mood swing? This is also the same person who talked like Ming was the second coming of Walt a few days ago...

He didn't say that Ming is like Bradley. He said that he currently is as good as Bradley and will get better, which is still stupid.

Do you think George could be "bi-polar"?
