Is there a way to turn off the tune Windows XP plays at start up? There's nothing like turning on my laptop after the wife goes to sleep only to have the pointless "Windows XP" theme play upon boot up. When my laptop is docked, I can just keep the speakers turned off. But when undocked, there's no way to stop it unless I muted the sound before turning off my PC the last time I had it on. The mute button on my laptop evidently doesn't begin working until after the annoying startup tune has already played (unless I muted it before turning off the last time I had the computer on).
Follow these steps: Start Settings Control Panels Sounds and Audio Sounds tab up on top Look at the program events box Scroll down to "Start Windows" After that's selected, scroll all the way up and you'll see the "none" option Your operating system and look might be a little different than mine, but basically those steps should work.
My speakers have an external volume control that I usually have all the way off, with the main/wave volume on my computer all the way up. Instead of the boot up sound, I have a wav file of a very loud Wayne Shorter saxophone solo (about 20 seconds long) play instead. I think it's pretty cool and I listen to it about every other time I boot up my laptop. What sucks is when I leave my docking station, and forget to turn the computer volume off -- at boot up that sax solo BLARES out of my comp. Very embarrassing in public (once at a book store, once at a press row in Indy).
