I'd have agreed with any normal president. Despite him threatening to financially ruin Turkey, I can't rule out Trump facilitating an extradition as some kind of 4-D chess move.
It seems pretty unlikely that the US would extradite Kanter considering that Gulen hasn't even been extradited and Kanter is essentially wanted by Turkey for his ties to Gulen.
I won't be surprised if trump extradites Kanter. It's exactly the kind of insane headline grabbing lunacy that he loves. Kanter should consider taking a leave of absence from his team until this clears up. Maybe take a vacation in Canada while he's on it. Looked at his stats and he appears to be having a pretty good year. I wonder how seriously the Knicks are taking this?
Yea. It would be even worse than pulling troops out of Syria - something he did for Erdogan and also so that he doesn't have to go grieve for American soldiers' lives lost in that conflict (something people report being very stressful to POTUS). Optics are all that Trump cares about. He won't do either of those extraditions because there is no way to spin it and it is very very visible action and thus bad PR. No way to hide it the way Deripaska sanctions can be quietly reversed.
So long as Kanter is still famous and if he stays on US soil he won't be extradited. When he retires and gets out of the public eye, he may be kidnapped but for now that's just for show.
