This thread is not only for 'white guys', but since there is at least one other 'niche' oriented music thread that I saw, it seems like it should be OK to have a thread that is not designed to accommodate current pop hits or rap music. By all means if you like those kinds of music, have at in your own thread. If that is you, then this thread is for a different crowd. Feel free to listen in, and maybe you will hear something that really is old-school middle-America that you like, and that contributes in an enjoyable way to the expansion of your musical horizons.

There are a number of tunes that I would characterize as 'Tunes that Rule', but this one resonates with something deep within my soul in a way that I cannot put into words.

It is Eric Clapton & JJ Cale performing a live version of 'After Midnight', which was written by JJ Cale. This song does rule.

If you have any other songs that 'rule' that would be oriented towards the middle aged 'white guy' type niche, I hope you will post them in this thread.

What is it that you like then? If you have a contribution that you would like to make that feel would properly re-orient the 'stereo-type' in a more proper direction, then you are certainly very welcome to post it. If you want the stereo-type changed, you are going to have to pitch in and help.

    :)

If anyone's whiteness 'sicketates' him, then he is a racist by any reasonable definition available. However, I doubt very seriously that those words can be accurately attributed to Louis Farrakhan. He certainly speaks to a certain crowd, and he is not bashful about calling out certain groups. But based on what I know of him, I do not believe that he has a blanket animosity towards all individual white people because of their whiteness. I suspect that attribution, delivered by you, is more properly sourced elsewhere.

what do coffee and eric clapton have in common?
    they both suck w/out cream.

"So, I was just learning to play like everyone I admired. I didn't so much admire Eric Clapton. I thought he was the master of the cliche, to be frank. There's a certain facileness to his playing -- it was like, "This is the accepted way of approaching this." I don't know, it never took me. It never grabbed me. But people like Rory Gallagher and Jimi Hendrix grabbed me, because they took the guitar into different places." - Andy Partridge, XTC

And MojoMan can't even help derailing his own thread to D&D territory in one comment. The levity here is what makes the Hangout great, homes.

Umm... the song posted in the OP. Is there any other music posted in this thread?

That doesn't mean a middle aged white guy wouldn't find it entertaining. As a young black guy, I was hoping this thread would be enlightening. So far I'm disappointed. :(

Totally agree. I'm just not sure why the OP decided to identify his whiteness or oppose his thread to the hip-hop one.

I agree, and I was hoping the same thing. Rest assured, I am at least as disappointed as you are. Perhaps I was just being naive, but I thought I could start a music-related thread in the hangout forum of the Clutchfans board, and that thread would be pretty much just a series of music video posts, one after another. But since I demonstrated the audacity to call attention to the fact that I am a middle-aged white guy, that seems to have served as a lightening rod for all kinds of race-oriented animosity from a number of posters. Perhaps I should not be surprised, but honestly, I am. And so far I am very disappointed as well.

Nobody in any of these hip hop and old white guy threads get any indie cred anyway, so whats the freaking point.
