By no means am I an audiophile, but recently, I've started spending money on this stuff. I've already got a kickass computer, so I figured I could stand to waste another grand on audio equipment, etc.? I mean, why not? :)

Anyhow, as I said in a previous post, I recently received my parents' old 1977 Bose 601 speakers. I'm going to get them fixed up soon, and I'll be needing a tuner.

Now, my goal has not been to have a surround-sound theater or anything like that, but rather to have something that can REALLY make CDs sound wonderfully. I'll have a great CD player soon, and so the only thing I need is a Tuner (and 2 more speakers would be nice, but they can wait).

In college, my last roommate found a Sansui 5000x tuner in his house, got it restored, and it was a thing of beauty. I've been doing some looking, and I'm pretty well set on getting a Sansui 9090DB. I ALMOST won one on ebay but got outbid with 10 seconds left. These things are expensive, and I'm thinking about really biting the bullet and spending the $650 to get one that's been totally restored to work like new. From everything I've read, this is among the VERY BEST tuners ever, with the Marantz 2270 as the other one I'm considering. Is there anyone here who has any experience with this stuff? I'm really set on getting one of the mid 70s tuners, and don't want to buy one of those newer $1000 ones. Is it possible that there's anywhere in Houston I could find a Sansui 9090DB for a good price?
