The Sporting News is running a poll on :Who had the most surprising run to the NBA title?". Believe it or not, the 95 Rockets are leading - Go vote if you have time at:- http://www.sportingnews.com/archives/ ------------------ Current Rocket's Salary & Contract Info
How could you not believe that? 6th seed, so basically imagine Minnesota winning it all this year. ------------------
The thing I have trouble beleiving is that other people recognize it! Usually poll results do nothing but disrespect us. Fact is, I'm trying work out whether this result is a sign of disrespect as well. ------------------ Current Rocket's Salary & Contract Info
- As in, "Houston teams suck so hard, of course it's the most suprising championship if THEY won it." It is kind of a backhanded compliment. ------------------ Bad spellers of the world: UNTIE!
I dont know who normally reads the sporting news (what age segment in particular), I only frequent occasionally, but I am not old enough to even remember any of those other runs (in fact, I wasnt even born for them) so perhaps people are just voitng for the Rockets cause thats all they can remember. Thats as deep as I dig into this one. ------------------ Jackie Treehorn treats objects like women!
NewGuy: That's one way of looking at it, but was Minnesota the defending champion going into this year's playoffs? No, but Houston was. The only reason the Rockets were a surprising championship team is because the media spent so much time that season shoving the idea of an Orlando championship down everyone's throat. ------------------
Good point SFR, imagine if the Spurs had won the title this year (I think they would've had Duncan been fit for the playoffs). Would that have been surprising? Most people would've been surprised because the media made it plainly obvious that Shaq and Phil were going to win.... ------------------
But we had struggled through the regular season and it didn't seem like Clyde was the miracle man we'd hope he'd be. We really hadn't shown the signs of a team that was championship caliber. Not to mention having to play 4 of the top 5 teams with best records(is that right? I remember all 4 teams had great years) and you've got a surprising run. ------------------
