Seriously are these guys f'n r****ded? Every knee jerk reaction they have is completely pointless. Take the liquid issue, prohibiting liquid containers less than 3 oz, which can easily be circumvented: - If you have a liquid/gel greater than 3 oz, why not just put it in your pocket and walk through security? If it's in a plastic container, there's no way of getting caught. - Suppose someone has bomb-making liquids, what's to prevent them from simply placing it in multiple containers that are less than 3oz? They could walk through security with no problem. - Okay, suppose there really was bomb-making liquid in one of those containers. Why are they simply discarded in the wide open? Isn't it dangerous to have potentially hazardous liquids out in an open trash can? Taking away someone's hair gel, toothpaste or other toiletries is not making this country safer. I swear, TSA is run by a bunch of f'n dumbasses.
when i went out of country, i couldn't bring my 8oz of cologne and i stunk the whole trip. damn joo tsa!! bcuz i couldnt smell good, i couldnt hook up with any chicks.
Yeah, they can be assess sometimes...I was leaving for Houston friday night out of Love and this girl was behind me tried to pass without the TSA person checking her ID/ticket...The TSA person yelled really loud "Hey"...then apologized..it was kind of funny... The the way back to Dallas, my backpack got checked because they thought they saw some liquid, but i don't bring anything of anykind just for that very same reason...IIRC, they said liquid shows up orange on the screen...I only had some peanut butter and they let me go...I've passed the inspection before with liquids...It just depends on how lazy the TSA person is...
TSA is there solely to give us the impression that the Federal Government is actually doing something - but in reality, they're just a damned inconvenience. I guess it's better than nothing ... well, maybe.
The TSA is full of r****ds. They are high on their own power. I wanted to punch one of them, but I really didn't want to end up guantanamo. They should just get rid of most security. It doesn't really make us any safer.
This is what I have always thought. They are there simply for the illusion of safety. I cannot count how many stories I have read where people have sneaked contraband past airport security.
I personally know someone who travels for business who takes Mary Jane with him every week and has ever since I've know him. (~10 years)
yeah when i was in portland I bought a bottle of soda right in front of the TSA guy and he wouldnt let me take it through saying that it could contain crap and no liquids that big. I looked at him in disbelief. I bought the freakin soda RIGHT in FRONT OF YOU I have my change and receipt right here. The bottle hasnt even been open yet. He said that I would have to leave the bottle there with him. The jerk wanted basically my soda for free and was nitpicking at the rule. His partner was telling him that it was fine since he saw me buy the soda right in front of them no more than 30 seconds before I got into the line. but the first guy wouldnt give up so I went to the nearest trash can and took a sip of the soda and then poured rest into the trash can and dumped the bottle in the recycle bin. The TSA looked pissed when I walked though. jerks
For purely informational purposes, maybe you could share his methods with me when you pay up on that bet.
One of the first things you learn when it comes to defending anything (your house, computer systems, castles, etc...) is the concept of Depth of Defense. Basically that means that there is no ONE thing you can do to secure whatever it is you are trying to secure; you have to use a series of things for effective security. One thing can always be overcome but many things become much more challenging. For example, when you secure your home you don't just lock your door. Obviously it helps but I think everyone here can think of several ways to get around a locked door. What you do is lock your door, get an alarm, light the property and get a dog. All those things combined make your house a much less inviting target than a simple locked door. Add an armed guard and your probably safe (but at what cost?). The same thing goes with regard to defending against terrorists (or whoever). The absolute best weapon we have against them is good intelligence but you can't just rely in that. The TSA at airports is there to provide some depth of defense to fighting terrorists. It's not the end all be all but it's something. I'm sure in addition to the TSA you see screening bags there are TSA agents secretly watching everyone who goes through security looking for people who meet certain profiles (racial and behavioral). So why do they search grandma's and little kids? One reason is political correctness. If they just searched young middle-eastern men people would cry racist really fast (and already have). Also, if they just searched young middle-eastern men the terrorists would quickly find someone who didn't fit that profile to sneak through. By searching every possible type of person it discourages that behavior. So the screening at airports is not the way the government is preventing another 9/11. It is just one of the (proabably) many things the government is doing to ensure that kind of thing never happens. Are they screening as best as possible? Certainly not as some of the posts in this thread relate, however, just because they don't do a good job doesn't mean they quit! You keep working at it until you get it right! For the guy who says his friend sneaks pot on board every trip... did you ever consider they don't care about pot? They are looking for dangerous things and I'm sure if they find pot they'll turn you over to the police but it's probably not their mandate. I worked in a club a long time ago and we started searching people entering for bottles. However, all the kids thought (for some reason) we were looking for drugs and would laugh when they got their X or pot past us. We didn't CARE about the drugs. We were worried about bottles being broken in the club and people getting hurt by broken glass. I'm not defending the competence with which the TSA does these things. I'm just hopefully giving some insight as to why they do some of the seemingly silly things they do.
I was busted for a Disney snow globe I was bringing home to my kids. A snow globe. 2 oz. of poisonous snow globe liquid death! They made me box it up and check it as "luggage."
All these r****ded rules yet they let stuff like this happen... http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/01/28/tsa.bombtest/ TSA tester slips mock bomb past airport security Ill never forgive them for making me throw away my huge bottle of issey miyake...
Don't they let you just leave cologne and stuff in the check-in bag. Just do that from now on. Do you really need the cologne on the flight w/ you?
The illusion of security at a very non-illusionary price. The entire DHS is a complete and utter sham.
The price of not being able to take a soda on a plane? Or having to actually BATHE instead of draping yourself in cologne?
