I am watching NBA-Coast-to-Coast (which is on ESPN2 now) and Ric Bucher commented on the Francis trade speculations.

Bucher said that the two front-runners are the Knicks and Nuggets still, but other teams interested are "Rockets and Lakers"!

Now, normally I wouldn't start a new thread about this, but Ric Bucher has a pretty solid track-record and he doesn't make up crap unless there's truth to it.

Apparently, the rumors are true and Houston are in the mix, it beats me what the heck the Rockets are thinking, since Francis' contract and lack of size make him ill-suited for the position we need help in, which is the SG. I wouldn't mind one bit if Francis was 6'5 or more, but he will be killed on the perimeter and it will only make our porous perimeter D even more so.

I don't understand it, especially if we're willing to take on $15 mil contract like his that's running for a few more years, for that kind of money we can get players better suited for this system and more likely to help make us a contender.

Just thought you guys would be interested in this bit of info in case someone missed it...

I hope isiah gets a 5 year extension. I'm really wondering where all this is leading to. Just think, in 5 years, Zeke will have amassed a sub 20 win team and over 200 million dollar pay roll. That would be interesting.

I can't imagine them going after Francis either. Maybe all these rumors are just the Rockets being part of a 3-4 team deal involving Steve going to another team. Maybe they can land Watson since Orlando already has an abundance of PGs. Or hell, maybe a distant possibility to acquire Lamar Odom. I don't see how he would fit in Orlando's plans.

I just somehow believe that the Rockets' name keeps popping up in Francis rumors doesn't really mean they are trying to get him.

Or maybe there is some giant four-way trade in the works that sends Francis to NY, Juwan Howard to Orlando, Crawford et al to LA, and Lamar Odom to Houston.

Or perhaps I'm just daydreaming... :D

Where would odom play ? 4 ? Not in the west.. he can charade as a 4 in the east but he is a 3. That is mcgrady's position and I doubt they will move him down to being a 2 guard because he would have to cover some of the league's best players. Odom would be nice but still doesnt solve our issue. =(

The Rockets ideas on personnel have always puzzled me. They have made precious few really good moves and their draft picks are typically "head scratchers." If we had the Spurs and the Pistons people picking players, we would probably be as talented as the are. Rockets management is known for giving outrageously large contracts to players who don't deserve them. This board makes fun of Isaiah, but what Les called the "greatest team ever assembled," (when Francis was here) wasn't. The Cato contract, wow. The Moochie contract, good grief. The Taylor contract, what were they thinking? The Francis contract, would any other team have given the max? Charlie Ward got a three year deal, amazing. And the list goes on.

why do you guys want Odom so much? He can't help the Rockets.

He plays the same position as McGrady. He lives on the perimeter. He has the ability to drive to the hoop, but he is not especially good at finishing plays.

Odom is SOFT! and the Rockets currently have enough softies on the team

and don't tell me can play the 4. That'sthe position the Rockets need to find a tough guy to play, and Odom isn't tough.

    Gimme a break.

Well ... as long as we're in daydream mode, Lamar Odom would do a heckuva lot better at the 4 than Juwan Howard (now I have my respect for Juwan and have defended him numerous times from bashers around here).

    Yeah... four-five years ago.

The rest of the NBA would like to have the Spurs and Pistons people picking players.

    Come back to reality.

The Spurs people, really? IF it were up to them they would have had Grant Hill a couple of years ago, which would have eaten up their salary. The Spurs have good foreign scouting, but they get LUCKY a lot.

What do you think of our additions this last summer? They are trying to get rid of one, Anderson, maybe another, Swift, and Alston is very inconsistent. At least they didn't give them the farm, but still. That is as current as it gets. And remember Mike James? Another great trade, yes?

As long as Houston is willing to spend the $$, why not just go after Jamal Magloire? Real gm reported that the Bucks may trade him this season simply because they will not be able to afford him when his contract runs out (his agent will be going for the max). Why not bring him in for the remainder or his contract, (2yrs, $8 mil per) and have him line up next to Yao as a 7ft power forward rebounding machine??

If he wants the max later, sign and trade :D

I don't buy francis to houston, an odom, as much as i like his game is not suited to our needs, nor is our team best for him to flourish. But in the NBA you just never know.

Well, I really don't want Odom, but I do feel he would improve the team and would be a guy the Rockets have probably looked at. He is a matchup problem and can be VERY beneficial against a team like Phoenix. He rebounds pretty well and can bring the ball up. So, he would make a difference in the makeup of this team. But, like you said, a big rebounder at PF should be more of a priority. But, if they only have to give up a couple of bench players for Odom, that's a win in talent and you should REALLY take a look at it. But, how likely is that? Not very.

I wouldn't mind Odom if we end up giving up Howard, but I would only want him if the trade for him improves us somewhat. Odom, despite his faults, is a better foward than either Howard or Swift; Swift's only advantage is that you can play him at the 5 spot to match up against some quicker, smaller teams in the league, but Lamar is just a better all-around player.

I'd give up Swift and some fillers, even a draft pick - for Magloire. In an instant.
