http://www.wsj.com/articles/donald-trump-willing-to-keep-parts-of-health-law-1478895339 He's already backtracked a ton already in 48 hours. It's like someone saying that they will clean the house but in reality all they did was vacuum the floor. You were promised one thing and got a lot less. Will he actually follow through with any of the things he said he would do? He'll try but I'm sure they'll be half-baked and a lot less than what his supporters were expecting.
Yawwnnnnn. Get back to me in 3 years. In the mean time, chill out. Have a cigarette, take in the crisp winter air. It's a good time to be 35 and sexy.
This shouldn't surprise anyone. Trump was a life-long Democrat and was a Hillary supporter and registered Democrat less than 7 years ago. Why so many bought into the notion that Trump was some extremist who was going to kill everyone or whatever stupid BS they believed is beyond me. That said, he'll sign whatever the Republican congress gives him because he's still pretending to be a Republican and he'll want a second term. That was always how it was going to be.
How long till he back pedals on the wall too? There are going to be some pissed off people that voted for him if he starts back pedaling on things he promised during his campaign.
Glad to see he willing to compromise and do what's best for the masses. I would think everyone would be happy about this.
I think the sales effort to get in the White House is different from a logical view of what will make the country better. When you have pure ideology followers like Obama, they tend to continue a path despite it not being the correct one. The fact that he wants to keep beneficial parts of Obamacare is a sign that he's willing to negotiate and have tradeoffs to get things done. The opposite of the last 8 years.
This thread is misleading because Trump actually said he would keep parts of Obamacare. Republicans have always liked parts of Obamacare. The repeal the whole thing rhetoric has always just been rhetoric.
This is so stupid. Of course it's easier to negotiate and get things done when you have a Congress that's the same party. For the last 6 years the Republicans in Congress have tried to repeal Obamacare and refused to even attempt to fix anything about it. As soon as Obama is gone and Trump suddenly discusses keeping key parts of it you scream "REAL LEADERSHIP!!!" How's life in your bubble?
Actually, trying to do that would represent stupidity. You can't keep pre-existing conditions ban without the mandate. The two don't function independently. Suggesting that he might keep it while still planning to repeal the unpopular parts just suggests that you and he don't understand the basics of how healthcare works. No one put a mandate in the law just for the hell of it - it's the only way to actually make the whole thing work. Otherwise, you just wait until you have a severe illness and then sign up, and all the insurers go bankrupt.
He flipped flopped on multiple things during his campaign run, and he's flipped flopped on a bunch of things if you compare against what he said before he was a politician. I'm just saying we don't know what he is up to and who he really is at all.
I certainly agree on your larger point that Trump has and will continue to flip flop based on prevailing sentiment and what he can get away with. So far, it's mostly been in a positive way.
As I posted on another thread if he keep the preexisting conditions clause then how can he remove the individual mandate. It seems to me like this would destroy the insurance industry. If you are forced to take in sick people which you will have negative expected return you need healthy people to make up for it.
Why? That's one of the few things he allegedly stands for that is actually a good idea. Build a border wall, make illegal immigration MUCH more difficult and then add a path to citizenship for those who have been here a long time.
This will be the slippery slope, his supporters are really passionate about Immigration, it is their big issue. I think a lot of them really believe that he's going to kick out all if not most of illegals and build a wall (that Mexico will pay for no less). I'm not sure if they will accept anything less, I guess we'll have to see. The only time I've seen his supporters lash out at him was when he started to first back track about the immigration and amnesty I should add that the more aggressive he is on it the more it will rile people up as it will start tearing apart families.
The wall may be built but just like another example of trump not following through, there's no chance that Mexico is going to pay for it, like zero. Trump ran on that idea.
Well, Trump talk big about being the best negotiator. When he look at health cost, he realize a government stick is the best negotiator. I wouldn't be surprise if that is the path he takes. Recall what he said: Donald Trump: Obamacare’s going to be repealed and replaced. Obamacare is a disaster if you look at what’s going on with premiums where they’re up 40, 50, 55 percent. Scott Pelley: How do you fix it? Donald Trump: There’s many different ways, by the way. Everybody’s got to be covered. This is an un-Republican thing for me to say because a lot of times they say, “No, no, the lower 25 percent that can’t afford private. But–” Scott Pelley: Universal health care. Donald Trump: I am going to take care of everybody. I don’t care if it costs me votes or not. Everybody’s going to be taken care of much better than they’re taken care of now. Scott Pelley: The uninsured person is going to be taken care of. How? How? Donald Trump: They’re going to be taken care of. I would make a deal with existing hospitals to take care of people. And, you know what, if this is probably– Scott Pelley: Make a deal? Who pays for it? Donald Trump: —the government’s gonna pay for it. But we’re going to save so much money on the other side. But for the most it’s going to be a private plan and people are going to be able to go out and negotiate great plans with lots of different competition with lots of competitors with great companies and they can have their doctors, they can have plans, they can have everything.
