Whatever. The Republicans better hope they hold onto the senate and the Democrats don’t get a 51-52 majority because they will likely see a degree of change they did not see as possible. After Trump and what the Senate has done... the Democrats will push for and likely pull off some things that will alter the landscape of politics in the USA... from a possible increased SCOTUS, to possible statehood for DC and P.R. ... the flooding of appellate judges... criminal investigations of Trump and Barr... to literal changes in basic Senate rules.
This should definitely be the game plan if it happens. I’m going to be really upset if the dems take control and let this administration off the hook.
I have doubts Biden will follow through on everything but the more Trump escalates till he leaves office, the more justified the other side is to roll it back
Biden will likely refuse some things... for example he may not “Pack the SCOTUS” but he would likely support statehood for DC and PR, flooding the appellate courts and other changes... personally I am not convinced he will ultimately be against packing the court... he says now he won’t, he may feel different after elected... everyone is rightfully concerned about the composition of the court but there are very effective indirect measures to change the court... DC and PR statehood would change the senate composition for decades and lead to future liberal justices.
Adding PR as a state is definitely a decision that could haunt the Democratic party long term, but it is 100% the right thing to do for our democracy, and for a morale perspective. Taxation without representation leads to what we've all witnessed with the piss poor Maria response. However any notion that PR would stay a Democratic state very long probably isn't that familiar with Puerto Rico, and probably isn't accounting for the Snowbird factor when it becomes another Florida like state after the Executive branch starts giving a damn about the Island and supports investing in their infrastructure which leads to a flock of Boomers on the Island. Giving PR Statehood is a winner politically though. DC I think will look partisan even though it has the same issue, but because it is just the size of a city & is viewed as heavily Democratic it will look more political to the "swing" blue collar white voters in Wisconsin & Pennsylvania who will be the same voters that decide whether or not the Democrats hold onto Congress in 2022 (assuming Biden wins), and ultimately decide whether Biden gets re-elected in 24. ........ However an issue though is that the SCOTUS, if allowed to stand at a 6-3 right wing majority, will have the power to potentially strike down statehood for PR & DC if there is any sort of contest which I'm sure there will be. So maybe adding states would be a bigger political winner, but might not be as tactically smart as adding SCOTUS seats. Abe Lincoln added SCOTUS seats because he knew the Supreme Court would overturn the emancipation of slavery. There is precedent in this in our democracy to do what is right, and history would reward Biden in the history books if he and Schumer do it for the right reasons.
I hope there many covid-19 infections and deaths from those who attend. The more Trump idiots that die, the better. Time to stop this dumbass in the Whitehouse.
