I wouldn't have graduated college if it weren't for Ritalin. I was a below 2.0 before. Essentially had to retake my first 2 years and finished with a 3.5 gpa. I could not sit through a class and my notes were a jumbled and doodled mess. I could not sit through a couple of pages of a book to study. Once I was diagnosed and placed on the medicine, my ability to focus increased dramatically. I didn't enjoy being on it, especially when I had a night class. But I do not have a degree with a double major without that help. I wish that I would've been diagnosed earlier than my 2nd year of college. I would've done much better in high school than I did. I just floated through and did enough to not piss my parents off and keep playing soccer.

My son is very similar to me. He's incredibly smart...but he cannot focus at all. He can be writing a sentence and lose focus in the middle of a word. He needs help, much like I did. Unfortunately, the same medicine that helped me didn't really help him. We've been through most of them and now looking into behavioral therapy. He needs to be better trained on how to stay on task without relying on the medicine.

Have you checked to see if there is some sort of patient assistance program that you might qualify for. Sometimes they have huge discounts or even free programs for you. I was on a biologic that was $2700 for a month supply (4 injections). They had a support program that I was able to be apart of that took that huge price down to $0 a month for a year. I have since stopped taking it because it wasn't working anymore and moved on to another biologic that's once again is super expensive. They have an assistance program so I can get it at a manageable co pay though..

Don't know if it's the same type of help but it might be.
