ATLANTA TRADES: Jason Terry Glenn Robinson Alan Henderson HOUSTON TRADES: Cuttino Mobley Eddie Griffin Glen Rice Moochie Norris Bostjan Nachbar TRADE ACCEPTED AT REAL GM WHY IT WORKS FOR HOUSTON: Terry improves our passing game. He’s 6th in the league at 7.4 assists per game, whereas Steve finished 12th. His assist to turnover ratio is 2.41, compared to 1.68 for Steve and 1.25 for Cuttino. Terry’s too much of a combo guard to ever be mistaken for John Stockton, but he’s a better point guard than Steve. Also, the two of them working together might combine to do the job of a great point guard and improve the flow of the offense, whereas Cuttino and Moochie give Steve no help on that end right now. Substituting Robinson for Eddie prevents offensive droughts. Eddie has been consistently bad on offense, whereas Robinson’s claim to fame is scoring. There’s been talk of bringing in a veteran for stability and Robinson can be counted on to score if nothing else. Our perimeter defense doesn’t suffer as much as you’d think. Terry generates more steals than Cuttino. Also, getting rid of Cuttino and Moochie leaves more floor time for James Posey, Terence Morris, and Juaquin Hawkins. I see a 3-guard rotation of Steve and James, with Terry coming off the bench to rest them both. In the event that Steve or Robinson are really getting abused on defense, James, Terence, and Juaquin could be substituted for a better combination. There’s no doubt that playing Steve, Terry, and Robinson heavy minutes would require us to outscore a lot of teams, but I think we could easily do that with those guys plus Yao and Mo Taylor. Our interior defense doesn’t suffer as much as you’d think. Eddie’s departure would free up more time for Yao and Kelvin Cato. Henderson, while overpaid, is a very good defender off the bench too. Some would argue that substituting Robinson for Rice would be just more of the same, but while their skills are similar, Robinson is 5 years younger than Rice and doesn’t have the same history of leg injuries. Finally, another season on Rudy’s bench will reduce Bostjan’s value to zero. The time to move him is now. For whatever reason, Rudy doesn’t like him and he needs a change of scenery to be successful. In the end, this team just doesn’t seem to work – not enough passing and very poor shooting. Removing Cuttino, Eddie, and Moochie addresses those problems without drastically hurting our defense. WHY IT WORKS FOR ATLANTA: First and foremost, it’s house-cleaning time in Atlanta. The coach and GM are gone and word has gone out that every player is available. If ever there was a likely trading-partner, Atlanta is it. Second and almost as important, Atlanta want to produce cap-space. Unlike Minnesota, Cleveland, or Utah, players actually want to play in Hot-lanta (it’s where the playas play, you know), but they need salary space before they can begin recruiting. As such, they desperately want to dump Robinson and Henderson’s contracts and would probably be up for moving them in favor of young, cheap players and Rice’s expiring contract. The only sticking points would be their losing Terry and bringing in Moochie’s contract. To be willing to do this deal, Atlanta would have to really like Eddie and Bostjan’s potential. I think we can all agree that both of them have great potential, but we can also agree that we and Les Alexander are tired of waiting. With a new arena to fill and new uniforms and merchandise to sell, Les is probably less patient now and wants vets like Terry and Robinson to help immediately. But Atlanta, without a GM or a coach at the moment, is clearly in rebuilding mode and might be willing to wait another year for Eddie and Bostjan to develop. In short, if Atlanta thinks that Eddie and Bostjan just need more time, the deal kick-starts their rebuilding process. But if it thinks that both of them are questionable prospects, they’d never agree to it.
how is Terry going to solve our point guard problem? He's a poorman's Steve Francis. Also there will not be enough shoots to go around...Francis, Yao, Robinson, Terry? no way...Robinson is too much of a liability on D.
You must be from Atlanta ... lol ... uh, no way on this deal. Its so bad for the Rockets, its not even worth debating.
I would definetly not do this trade. But I have heard this before "Terry is a poorman's Francis". This is so wrong! Terry's play isn't like Francis, you can't compare them! You just can't say that he's like a bad Steve Francis. He is a shooting PG, but he has improved a lot. I think he is sixth in the L. in assists or something. I'm not saying that he would end our PG pass first problems, but STOP saying he's a poorman's Francis. That's just wrong bro'.
Stupid trade. We give up 3 good contracts + 1 expiring contract + 1 overpaid contracts for 3 overpaid contracts? We are getting rigged BIG TIME. Hawks are going to BLOW UP their team after this horrible season and desperately want to collect young guys AND expiring contracts. So if you really want to get Terry and Robinson, EG + Boki + Rice (expiring contract) can probably get it done. But why do we even want Robinson who is a LOSER and has a HORRIBLE contract and why do we want Terry who is basically a Cuttino Mobley type player with a BIGGER contract? And yeah nobody I mean NOBODY will take Moochie's contract. Everyone can forget about trading him in a million years. When you ever overpay a player, you are never going to get rid of it.
If you are going to trade with Atlanta, then bring in SAR. Not glenn Robinson!! and I agree with the majority, that Terry is a poor man's francis.
It's refreshing to finally see a trade that rapes the Rockets. At least someone here isn't completely homerific.

TRADE ACCEPTED And then.... A. Williams and the #34 pick (LAC's 2nd) to Houston C. Mobley & Tmo & #32 pick (Tor's 2nd) & #42 (Hou's 2nd) to LAC A. Miller (s & t starting at about 7 mil per year) to Toronto Next year we have: Yao Ratliff Ratliff EG Mo Big Dog JP EG Francis JP Hawk A. Williams Francis #34 pick We can go with a suffocating defensive team with Yao, Ratliff, JPo, Francis (weakest link should be really covered by the rest), & Williams, or go offensive by putting in the Big Dog and Mo. If Ratliff and Big Dog don't work out--they are off the books in 05. This is not radical--but I think this might work.
