My lawn has been absolutely assaulted by weeds and is in sad shape. I'm considering giving a professional service a try, but I've read some not-so-nice things about them. I don't want to be harassed by phone calls, and I worry about how pet-safe it is (we have a basset hound). I wanted to hear from some ClutchFans before I sign up for anything.

I've had neighbors that used in (both in Harris Branch and now in Round Rock) and I saw no change. I'm fairly certain that the yards actually got worse.

My yard is in bad shape right now, too. I was all ready to get the grass set 2 weeks ago...then it rained before I had a chance. I sprayed some Ortho weed killer yesterday. It's seems to already be working and doesn't harm the grass. You do have to keep pets and kids off of it until it's dried.

Don't do it. All they do is spray liquid fertilizer on your yard. It will be green for a little bit, and then it will burn your grass. There is no better way of getting rid of weeds than making your grass grow well especially if you have St Augustine since its almost like a weed itself.

I would put Dillo Dirt down and then water and mow frequently. Your grass will better than ever and will choke any weeds you may have.

A few of my neighbors use them, it helps take the guess work out of keeping a nice lawn.. However, I still have a much better lawn than them year in and year out and I do it myself for 1/8 the cost.. Hell, I've even had someone who lives a few streets down come to my door and ask what I do to keep the lawn so nice.. :D

They have no vested interest in improving your yard quickly.

    Kill, till, fill, and sod.

And do it now, before summer starts.

Yea...I once gave them a call for a "introductory offer" treatment. Then, they try to hook you into the year long contract treatment. To me, the price didn't add up. I would rather have bad grass than pay what they were asking. And, they did hound me on the phone for a while to get an answer while I was thinking it over.

I did some old-fashioned weed pulling this last weekend using a tool called a Weed Hound. It works good to pull weeds...but my hand got some blisters after pulling weeds for two hours with it.

Thanks for the advice, bro, but:

    1. I don't really want to start over from scratch. Kill, till, fill, and sod my entire front and back yards? There's got to be an easier way.
    2. ?
    3. Profit.

What percentage of your lawn are weeds right now?

If you have a good amount of grass left you can start by pulling the weeds by hand and putting down some weed and feed before it gets too hot.. Then make sure to bag your grass when you mow to help minimize weed spreading.. When mowing, slowly increase your mowing height as your turf builds so your grass needs less water and can help choke off weeds easier. depending on how bad your lawn is it could take two summers before you lawn is back to healthy..

If you do go the Trugreen route it's still going to take just as long if not longer to bring your lawn back, but you wont have to do any of the work..

Also FYI, water like crazy in the mornings.. The longer you water each time the better, more frequent shallow watering don't do as much good as long deep watering..

Edit- Make sure to lightly feed your lawn about 8-12 weeks apart during the growing season..

In Austin I would go with ChemTrail -- they're the best in town.

Dude, we're in the middle of a drought that's breaking records. It's not likely to let up any time soon, either. Don't worry...love your dirt!
