http://myespn.go.com/blogs/truehoop/0-38-307/Shane-Battier-to-Daryl-Morey-on-Ron-Artest.html When asked to comment on Morey's statement, Artest responded, "NO STATISTICS!"
How about we just all tell him to only shoot when he's going left? That's not a statistic.. that just a word of advice.
so morey doesn't go to adelman? isn't the job of the coach is to tell players what he's doing wrong and right?
Haha you see, Adelman knows better than to give Artest instructions. Adelman knows not to screw around with Crazy Pills.
Some players is best not to tell them anything...Artest is one of those players. Not because of his attitude...its just better to let him free. You don't tell Kobe not to take that shot, same with Iverson, Tmac, Lebron, etc etc...a lot of nights Ron MAKES those shots, but they are normally good shots for him. Can't cage a pit bull, Shane is right.
I highly doubt in the heat of the game that Artest would remember someone's advice. Especially since he believes LeBron to be Artest 2.0 Yeah, this only reinforces the doubt in my mind that we will resign Artest. Morey's statement affirming that he is on the same page as Artest's agent only seems like he is following a policy of appeasement. Tell Artest what he likes to hear, see where this season ends up and send him over to some other team in a S&T (Wiz for Caron Butler?). If you can't coach the pitbull, I don't care if he makes this team's collective cajones double in size, you just don't keep him. For those of you saying he is our version of Maxwell, you have got to remember that he had Olajuwon to keep him in check. Same for the Rodman - Jordan dynamic. Yao will never be the leader we need.
What are you talking about? Out of the players you mentioned apart from Artest AI is the only one who uncoachable, and look what happened to the Piston when he was starting for them. Kobe, Lebron and Tmac are coachable. If they weren't they wouldn't achieve the success they had (for us only in the regular season though).
im with you on the coachable part, ofcourse theyr coachable, but u cant blame them lets say for taking a 2 or 3 bad shots, but i dont understand why artest cant be advised ???? sometimes he just does what he wants, hes a star maybe, but NOT a superstar.
These are the kind of intangibles Shane Battier is reduced to providing these days. Turrible, just turrible
Interesting quote, but "too afraid" does not describe Morey in the article. The Morey-Battier stance is basically the same that Van Gundy had toward T-Mac. In that case, it was "You have to let a superstar be a superstar" and take the bad shots with the good. In this case, it's "Let the pit bull act like a pit bull," i.e. don't "stifle" him. A more accurate title of this thread might be "Morey afraid he'd stifle Artest." It's not as if he was afraid of being bitten.
DM's job should not be going around telling people what their stats are even if they are doing poorly. That's the coach's job. The GM must consult with the coach to resolve the issue.
It may not necessarily be his job but Morey is a stat guru. If anyone knows any special stats on Ron, its The Morey
I'm surprised more people aren't up at arms about this. No communication between one of your main players and organization. Seems so familiar to me for some reason. Bah, I must be crazy.
Ha Ha this is great stuff. I like Ron more and more as the days go by. I don't even mind when he goes nuts on the court and takes a few bad shots. We haven't had a competitor with Ron's mindset in quite some time. He always brings his all on both ends of the court, so I'm never that disappointed when he jacks up a three with good faith. You have to accept the good and the bad with many players. With Ron, I'm just accepting the good. He's been great since he's been here.
Too afraid to give Artest advice but this is the guy they so called want to re-sign. Hahahaha priceless.
Why not just tell Adelman? Ron didn't have a problem with Adelman making him come off the bench, I doubt he'd have a problem taking shots he knows has a better chance of going in.
I think he did have a problem coming off the bench. It's just the way he said it. He kept saying that he wasn't ready and its hard to get warmed up blah blah blah from coming in at the end of the quarter when your warmed up and then have to sit down. I think he did have a problem
Shades of Vernon Maxwell, but Ron seems to be more grounded now. Some nights Vernon was the best in the NBA (his defense on Jordan was outstanding) and other times he would just make you wonder what in the hell he was thinking('95 playoffs exit). I do love having some tenacity on the team - it just makes it overall more interesting than in years past.
