This is a minor tidbit, but its the offseason so what the hell: [rquoter] Rockets' general manager Daryl Morey and NBA LIVE 09 producer Brian Ullrich gave a presentation about the use of Dynamic DNA -- a feature that lets the game emulate players with absolute precision.[/rquoter] http://myespn.go.com/blogs/truehoop/0-33-60/NBA-LIVE-09-Event.html I wonder what level of involvement he had on this.
This almost makes me wish I played and understood the dynamics behind a video game. Almost Interesting though that he is the one they chose to speak. I would have liked to hear about the concept even if I might not understand its applications.
Doesn't EA always do something like this each year? They add something "new and innovative" which gets gamers to bite, only to disappoint them with the same ol gameplay. Hopefully, they do more this year than adding new gimmicks.
one thing cool I heard about NBA2k9, is (Im a presentation geek) they say after each QUARTER they will have multiple replays of the BEST plays of THAT quarter. They should bring back the player introductions. Always would be cool, in Association, before each game they should show hihglights of the PREVIOUS game for both teams. I remember playing NFL 2k5 on the first Xbox, the presentation was 2nd to none. Had Chris Berman doing weekly highlights and news recaps. Bad ass.
There is basically no 2K9 info at this point. Live's feature has the game hooked up online at all times, players are updated in real time, no roster edits, no tendency edits, the game does it for you fresh. Its the first gimmick feature that actually sounds decent. But all 2K has to do is make dynasty better, fix some glitches, and it 2k9 may be the best BB game ever.
I like that auto update feature, and I'm not sure why it hasn't been implemented. I mean, 2K Sports can't even be bothered to release more than a couple of updates a year for some reason. It's not that hard to follow, as if players are moving from team to team on a daily basis. My other gripes with 2K8 are... - Players take too many crazy shots around the paint area, and it seems like the stranger the shot looks, the more likely it is to go in. - It's way too hard to block shots. I had to turn off fouls and play 12 minute quarters just to get the 15 blocks achievement. - Rebounding stats aren't accurate. There are times when I'll get like 6 rebounds in the first few minutes of play and then when I check the box score at half time or whenever, the player somehow only has 4 rebounds. - Post game "highlights" for each player are dodgy at best. Half of them are defensive rebounds for crying out loud. - They need to fix the glitch in Association where you can change a player's role to Starter to make him happy, and then immediately take it back to Role Player or Bench Warmer without his morale dropping. - It should be harder to trade up in the draft. You can usually get a top 5 pick every year by trading for draft picks during the year and then consolidating them on draft day. - The menus suck.
He probably just commented on the technology, which is the same as what's on the software system most NBA teams use. http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/07/nba-live-09s-dy.html
This year they are having a feature that updates all players stats DAILY. Personally I think 2k is light years ahead of live, but that alone is an amazing feet. So you can actually use the breakout players and not have them suck.
idk i might switch over to the darkside and get LIVE 09 this year, although i hate EA with a passion. But that auto-update stuff is awesome and i remember live 08 on ps3 had ESPN on demand content. my friend would bring it over and we could watch sportscenter from earlier that day.
theres also a glitch with names. I have Jose Calderon as my starting point guard for the rockets in my association and Kenny Smith always says "The Raptors should be very happy with Calderon" 2k8 has good gameply but youre right about the menu's.. THEY SUCK.
NBA 2K9 really only has presentation and graphics to work on. Gameplay is FAR better than the competition. And that's what 2K seems to be emphasizing this year. All new presentation with highlight outros between quarters with "theme song." I wouldn't be surprised if intros were in the game. It's been something everyone's wanted on the game for a long time now. Also, championship celebrations might be added. I'm just speculating, but those are the "big holes" in 2K's presentation. As far as Morey discussing Live's feature, I'll bet EA came up to him and offered him money to recite a written presentation.
I'd like to see if they stick to their word. They barely give out roster updates and those were hardly inaccurate. Their default rosters were a joke. It's going to be interesting to see if they really do update everyday. That means rosters should always be up to date. No missing players or nothing. EA Sports were just as worst with their roster updates. They even had less roster updates than 2K.
