So I was reading a Fortune article on the guy who started the company, etc. Even after reading all that, I still have no idea how he managed to brainwash a bunch of people into paying $200 for a pair of jeans. Please explain so I can do the same thing but with noodles. Anyone want $50 bowl of Ramen? Edit: Here's the article in case anyone cares. http://money.cnn.com/2009/11/16/news/companies/true_religion_jeans.fortune/index.htm
perception is reality. a $200 pair of jeans is better than a $40 pair jeans simply because it costs $160 more. now is the quality of the $200 jeans 5 times better? well, if it is and lasts at least 5 times as long then it's certainly not a rip off.
I don't know how he brainwashed people into thinking they are attractive jeans. Guys look like ridiculous in them and, they are not very flattering on girls.
I was about to say Mom Jeans, but those are the jeans that repel people from your beaver. <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://widgets.nbc.com/o/4727a250e66f9723/4b0187904911abc4/4741e3c5156499a7/f65c37b6/-cpid/3dad35f9b86bf421" id="W4727a250e66f97234b0187904911abc4" width="384" height="283"><param name="movie" value="http://widgets.nbc.com/o/4727a250e66f9723/4b0187904911abc4/4741e3c5156499a7/f65c37b6/-cpid/3dad35f9b86bf421" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="allowNetworking" value="all" /><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /></object>
1. Make a product. 2. Price it high. 3. Pay big rap/pop artist to name drop in song. 4. Collect checks.
I had a friend who bought these type of jeans and he was one of the most materialistic people I ever met. He was cool guy, but he had this obsession that he had to look good and the only way to do so was by buying expensive jeans.
I personally wear True Religion and Diesel and they are my choice for Jeans. yes they are expensive but they have outlasted any pair of cheap jeans that I have bought. I have a pair of Diesels that just hit 7 years and they are still in style and haven't torn or gone bad. I personally used to buy cheaper jeans but would go through them faster but with these they really do last a lot longer and seem to just have a better quality to them. As someone stated before If I pay $200.00 or more for a pair of jeans and they last for the next 5 years plus then I think I did okay. I don't ever mind paying more money for something if the quality is there and you get what you paid for.
The quality isn't there. Mediocre all the way through, from the cut to the denim to the stitching. It just built up an image for itself that people flocked to. That and the exclusivisity of being 200-300$ a pair.
Because if people know that you spend $200 for a pair of jeans (or $50,000 for a car, or $1000 for a cellphone, etc.,) then they know that you're a good, honest, and decent human being and that you have been blessed by god.
True Religion sucks. Not that there is anything wrong with Costco but they sell that crap there. I think that I would rather wear Paper Denim as it is less expensive (not as durable) but much less overtly "fashion forward." That said Diesel is my go-to denim. They have some really messed up styles but as a whole they make a solid, handsome, and durable denim. True Religion is for Sweet Bros.
This is what an overpriced fad looks like. Still trying to figure out how this hasn't happened to TRLG yet.
