Troy Pattons been promoted to the High A affiliate, Salem Avalanche. Hope he breezes through there and reaches at least AA by seasons end.
The kid is still only 19 and is building up arm strength... and it is imperative that you be patient and not bring him up until he's 20-21 because the chances for his arm getting worn out due to injury is increases exponentially when you try to do too much at a young age. Thus, I wouldn't expect to see him at Corpus till, at the earliest, the beginning of next year.
Nick is right, look what happend to Carlos Hernandez, Kerry Wood, and Rick Ankiel. I hope Hunter Pence is healthy and get promoted next.
Carlos' injury had absolutely nothing to do with being rushed up. It occurred on a slide back into second base.
How the hell do you have Tommy John surgery sliding into 2nd? His shoulder was already weak before that, put the slide probley just may it worse.
He didn't have Tommy John surgery. He had rotator cuff surgery as he had jammed his shoulder on a head first slide into 2nd.
Do you just make these things up? Where did you get the idea that his shoulder was already weak? And what does tommy john surgery have to do with the shoulder anyway?
70% of all rotator cuff tears are the result of falls, according to something I read -- after tearing mine, after a fall. However, and to the point, why has CH not been able to return to pre-accident levels?
How do you know his shoulder was already weak? Incidentally, Tommy John surgery involves replacing a ligament in the elbow. Also, here is a quote describing Hernandez as one of the Astros top prospects in 2002 froma report in USA today: "Carlos Hernandez -- LHP -- Middle of the Rotation Starter: A diminutive lefthander, Hernandez put together an excellent 2001 season at Class AA and pitched phenomenally in three starts at the big league level before his season was ended by a freak shoulder injury...."
I don't mind them taking it slow with Patton, based on his age, but there's no way Pence, at 22, should still be at low A ball.
It's because he torn his labrum in his shoulder. It's basically the most serious and untreatable injury a player can have. Even with the advances of medical science in treating baseball injuries, it's still always practically a career ender. In the last ten years the only player to come back from it and preform up to pre-injury levels has been the cardinals' chris carpenter. This article sums it up. http://slate.msn.com/id/2100895/
Good Article, by the way Hunter Pence returned today from his injury and guess what he did, hit another home run.
Considering both Pence and Ash were promote to Salem... its just a matter of time for Pence. My guess is, they want to make sure he's fully healthy before they give the go-ahead.
Shut up, someone who works in the media told me he was going resign with them. They are usually right and they were right this time but McLane at the last minute refused the no-trade. I don't care what you think about, its not like all of you BS shut stuff anyway.
Is this the same person who told you that Hernandez had "Tommy John" surgery on his "already weak" shoulder? If so, you need to find a better "source" or at least one who knows the difference between a shoulder and an elbow.
