http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=1818510 Witnesses: Bryant, Parcells in heated argument IRVING, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Antonio Bryant reportedly had an altercation with coach Bill Parcells during practice Tuesday and was ejected by club security. Witnesses who spoke on condition of anonymity told the The Dallas Morning News and Fort Worth Star-Telegram for Wednesday's editions that the confrontation began when Bryant complained about his role as the team's third receiver and the number of repetitions he was getting during a drill. Bryant got into separate arguments with receivers coach Todd Haley and Keyshawn Johnson. When Parcells told Bryant to stop, the third-year player took off his pads and jersey, slammed them to the ground and began to leave the practice field. Sources told the Star-Telegram that Parcells picked up the jersey and threw it back at Bryant, who then threw it in the face of the approaching coach. Bryant was then escorted out of practice by security personnel Bryant's agent, Lamont Smith, said he was aware of the incident and "it's being worked out internally with the team." But the confrontation has clouded the player's future with the team, one day after the conclusion of the team's three-day minicamp and was part of a series of on-field activities Parcells is conducting until the end of the week. The Cowboys were scheduled to report to training camp July 30 in Oxnard, Calif. Although Bryant has often complained about his role in Dallas and had other practice-field and sideline blowups, he was expected to be a key member of the Cowboys' receiving corps. Taken in the second round of the 2002 draft, Bryant earned all-rookie honors in 2002 after catching 44 passes for 733 yards and six touchdowns. Bryant caught 39 passes for 550 yards and two touchdowns last year as the third receiver behind Joey Galloway and Terry Glenn. This year, Bryant was set to be the third receiver behind Glenn and Johnson, who was acquired from Tampa Bay in a trade for Galloway.
If I wasn't so busy, I'd be busting my cubicle mate's balls about the Cowboys right about now. Ahhh... gotta love the dysfunctional clan up north!
That would be stupid to release him now. They would be out some big bucks for the next couple of years. If anything, then we should hold onto him or trade him. Bryant is just a whiney biyatch who needs to grow up. He is a third string receiver until he proves otherwise. I don't know what he is crying about. It's a freaking mini-camp...not preseason. What a baby! The way he disrespected Bill, though, might have earned his one way ticket off the team. He better have some serious apologies coming. The truth is he hasn't really shown any true consistency to be anything other than a 3rd stringer to this point. Yes, he's had some good catches but he's also had some terrible play as well.
If he is released there is a slew of teams that would take Bryant. He is a good reciever with size and if given enough touches can make an impact.
It would suck to be a cowboys fan. Crappy QB's throwing to overrated WR's with no running game. The future sure looks bright.
Training camp begins July 30th? That means that some Cowboy player will be ripe for a drug bust around August 15th. The Crackwagon lives!
If he's willing to so outwardly disrespect Bill Parcells, what coach could really handle him? I'm not saying no team will pick him up, because he IS talented... but sheesh if Parcells doesn't make you straighten up and fly right... then who on earth would?
Antonio has been in Dallas 2 years working his butt off with half assed QB's that can't get him the ball and all the sudden Parcell's boy come to camp, after getting dropped from the Bucs, not playing for half the season and he gets the reps with the first team in the first mini-camp..I'd be pissed too. Buuut, Gil Brandt says Keyshwn dropped the first pass of the day but then caught everthing in his direction after that. Soo.. These guys have big egos, it's hot, Parcells is an a-ho by design. It'll work out, the Boys absolutely need him so Jerry Jones will stroke Bryant like he stroked Larry Allen.
Hey nWo, when you get through using your cowgirls sig, can I borrow it? It is classic. I loved sitting in a room full of quiet, grouchy cowboy fans.
Bryant is more talented than 90% of the players in the NFL. he also has more issues than 90% of the players in the NFL. Great talent bad attitude. But Dallas needs a 3rd receiver. I don't know who is available via FA but Antonio and the coaches need to either kiss and make up or something needs to be done (trade him or cut him). Good news is if Dallas cuts him it's only a $130k per year Cap hit the next 2 years.
Can we have him instead of the 3rd rounder? He would be second reciever on our squad. Of course, the Texans are into character guys....and quitting isnt really going to put you on the "good guy list". However, I wouldn't mind choking Parcells.
article from last year: http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/pitt/20031027graduates1027p3.asp Still, Oleksa is one of the few former players who said Harris tended to be more lenient with star players than he was with the rest of the team. Namely, he says, Harris took it easy on receiver Antonio Bryant, who was prone to sideline outbursts and holding himself out as more important than his teammates. Harris says he believes such criticism is justified. "I readily admit that I should have been tougher on Antonio," he said. Mistakes he made in handling Bryant, a member of the Dallas Cowboys, will not be repeated with other players, Harris promised. Though Bryant possessed staggering talent and an engaging personality, he lacked maturity, Harris said. Bryant would have been a better player, person and student had the staff demanded more of him, Harris said. "He had first-round [National Football League] talent, and he was a second-round draft choice, so something must have been wrong in our approach."
