Hey, I was wondering if anybody knew anything about Atlantic City. I'll be going up there for a few days and was wondering what place to stay at (something cheap but not too cheap), where to gamble on blackjack, if there are any good shows, and any good eating places. And any other advice about the place would be appreciated. Also, if anyone can find me the threads about what to do when visiting New York City and that thread that had advice on Las Vegas and gambling in general, i'd appreciate it. Thanks for the help! P.S. Can someone also give me a link to the Questions you were afraid to ask Pt II thread? (I don't have search function and I got some random questions to ask)
Hey Pimp, I stayed at the Tropicana about this time last year. Pretty nice hotel, not grand and elegant or anything but very reasonable. We gambled there and at Caesers, walked along the beach, but our eating out consisted of Hooters. I think you maybe a little surprised by the AC. It's an absolute pit, other than the strip of casinos along the beach. And this time of year it's cold dreary and gray. Just google for a listing of shows and the Trop always has smaller comedy shows and larger headliners all the time.

First off...I hope you aren't going to Atl City and expecting it to be Las Vegas.....it isn't even close. Atlantic city is one of the biggest slums in the northeast. That being said...the cheaper hotels are probably places like Showboat, Harrah's Marina, Sands, Claridge....they all have relatively cookie cutter casinos. As for food...one place you MUST go is to White House for a cheesesteak....one of the best you will ever have. The new Steve Winn hotel , the Borgata is clearly the jewel of Atl City....there is a decent steakhouse in there called the Old Homestead...pricy but a decent meal. Do yourself a favor and stay off the boardwalk late at night...and the streets for that matter...its a dangerous slum if you wander in the wrong direction. There are tons of shows...jst call the casinos or go to their websites and check them out.
Thanks for the replies, they have been helpful. No, I'm not expecting any Las Vegas type stuff. I'll stick to the casino if Atlantic City sucks. I'm heading up to New York to visit my girlfriend so I figure staying in the Atlantic City Hotel for a day and a half would be cheaper than staying in a New York City hotel of the same quality, plus we'll be able to gamble some and see a show maybe. Right now, I'm thinking we'll be staying in the Tropicana.
Actually scratch that. NJRocket, do you know anything about "Resorts Atlantic City?" That may be the place I'll be staying at. Also, do you know if any of the casinos you mentioned use the automatic shufflers for blackjack? I hate those.
Resorts is probably on par with Showboat and the others I mentioned...as for the shufflers...I know that a lot of places in Vegas uses them but I honestly dont remember whether or not they use them in AC...I have to think that they do. Perhaps the older casinos (which resorts is one of those) may not use them...at least not at every table.
