If I am not mistaken, Treeman leaves for basic training tomorrow. Tree....Good luck my man, you were the biggest Conservative poster on the boards, I will miss you. DaDakota
Good luck and in the words of Lt. Dan: "Try not to do anything stupid....like get yourself killed!" Surf
just remember, basic training is a mindf**k... if you get through their mind games, you'll be fine! good luck treeman! err.... maggot!
It happens all the time. (If you remember, I went to Basic and was sent home after a month due to back problems). People who can't take it will try anything to get out: attempting suicide, faking a suicide attempt, crying, insanity, you name it. Whatever the ploy, it usually works: the Army usually doesn't want people in who don't want to be there. Some people have legit problems and never should have come in inthe first place, and some just can't take it and want to go home so bad they'll try anything to get out. Basic Combat Training is rough. Its certainly no walk in the park. I honestly wonder what some of those people expected it to be like. I was amazed at the number of people who were surprised by all the yelling. You're bound to meet some of these people, Treeman. Don't let 'em get to you.
Also remember that the real military is not like boot camp. A lot of people think that the military is like being in boot camp for several years. It has been said before but it is well worth repeating, boot camp is a mind game. Dont take it personal. Lay low. If your DI's do not know your name at the end of boot camp then you did great. It will be physically demanding but many many people do it every year. I wouldnt do it again but I have very fond memories of boot camp. Good luck and we are all proud that you have decided to serve your country.
MB: Yeah, I know. I actually have a fairly good idea of what to expect. Needless to say, I'm a bit nervous about it... On the one hand, being 29 (and in person/reality far more rational than I may appear here) I probably won't have a problem with the mental side of it. But being 29, I am not going to have an easy time at the physical aspects, though. Basic was designed for 18-year olds... I'm going in as an E-4, so it will be impossible for me to lay low. The DS's are going to hammer me from the second I get there. All I can do is try not to f* up too much. Again, thanks for the sentiments, everyone.
I`ve been in the Israeli army for 3 years.....I can now say it was a great experience and for those who asks : NO,I didn't shot even one bullet beside on dummy targets in those 3 years. beside the US army looks rather fun. Dan Lederman
Good luck buddy. I'll try and have the Bruce book read before too long (damn libraries, I ain't givin' that woman any of my money ), free of charge.
I almost didn't post here, but that would have been a mistake. I hope that you manage to keep yourself safe. While I think that you're a bit irrational in matters of IR, I don't think you seem like a bad guy. So, g'luck... and I hope that you're never in a situation where you might kill... or kill others. But if you are... well, may you always do what's right, and stay true to yourself.
