Foye just got called for a travel after he caught the ball and basically took steps without dribbling...

LeBron did the same today and didn't get called for it and a bunch of NBA players still do not dribble after they catch it while running to the lane..

    So what is the rule?

Do you have to dribble the ball after you catch it while running in the lane or can you take 2 steps without even dribbling???

I think you should dribble post catch but I'm not really sure, can someone explain?

LeBron caught it during his first step then took a second step. Should not be traveling. I did not see the Foye call. A common issue I know from playing, is when the player catches the ball with both feet on the ground, you do not get two steps from there, you still only get one. Was that the issue?

You can take one step if you're already moving. Can't take two.

    Yeah sorry.

If you're stationary you can take one step as long as your second foot doesn't leave the ground (basically pivoting).

If you're moving when you get the ball you can take two steps. Just like after you stop dribbling you can take two steps (again as long as you're moving when you stop dribbling).

And the official rules are so hard to read.

All NBA Rules work on a multiTeir System'
    1. There is a set of ordinary basketball rules. The ones you read, grow up with and know.
    2. Good or better players are exempt from them. Esp at specific points in a game. The only time they are not exempt is in case 3
    3. Great Players/FACE OF THE NBA TYPE PLAYERS - they are not only exempt from said rules but they can revoke the exemption of other players of lesser stature. If you are the Face of the ATL Hawks . . . . you do not trump Lebron or NY FACE Players or LA FACE Players

So . . Travel? It is what ever the moment calls for . . . it is a judgement call
