I will be spending three nights this week at the Inter-Continental Hotel in Budapest, Hungary (right on the Danube). Has anyone ever been, or knows anything about the area/culture that a tourist like myself should?

I will be traveling by myself, and already have the uber-nerdy, historical agenda rolling for the most part. Tips on safe/unsafe parts of town, on good eats, or lesser-known historical sites would be greatly appreciated!

I am half Hungarian, so I can help you a bit. Budapest is a beautiful city mixing both medieval and modern. The most stunning thing in the city is the parliament building, which you must take a tour of. Then you can visit each of the bridges crossing the danube. There are many museums and a very good zoo to visit as well. The castle hill, buda castle and the embankments are also very beautiful and a must see. Please take time to sample the cuisine, as its delicious. Hungarian food is very spicy. Make sure that you also try some Hungarian wine. Getting around is easy, there are plenty of taxis, but I recommend getting a one day subway pass. I hope you enjoy yourself there. Yo Utat!! (Have a nice trip)

I went there in 2005. Had a great time, but I hope you like paprika: they put it on everything. ;) But seriously, the food was surprisingly good, the people were incredibly friendly, and the culture and history is fascinating. You need to check out the parliament building. Also check out the Fisherman's Bastion: great views of the city. And as for nightlife, try Club Seven downtown. The little bit I remember from that night was great! You can see some of my pics from Budapest at:

Check out days 2, 3 and 4 for some views of the city.

I am sorry but I cannot start new posts so I will post here as well

I have a vcation rewards thing with a timeshare company and I have a week to redeem, so I am trying to figure out what would be the most scenic and nicest weather areas in the USA this time of the year. I plan on traveling in the next two weeks, so any suggestions are welcome. naturally i would prefer staying in a big city with a nice climate (cool more than hot) that has a nice beach close by but also would love to be close to other towns or cities so may be I can venture out and see other places also during that week? I do plan on renting a car

Sounds vague I know but I am looking for a few ideas to get me started on knowing where to visit or spend most of my week
