So i may be going to vegas for a few nights in june, and as much as I would like to rent a car for my stay, prices are steep for anyone under 25.

So my question is, what other options are out there? I'd like to limit the amount of walking the group does in the Vegas summer heat.

Prices and experiences would also help out.

If you are staying on strip a car is not needed.

if you plan on driving away from the strip to see hover dam etc, you should rent a car.

else you can take a cab, even off strip like the hard rock/palms etc, its a pretty cheap cab ride.

there's a monorail at the mgm that takes you down the strip too, it's like $9.

Dont use the monorail. It's overpriced and its off to the side of the hotels. Regardless of where you stop you have to take a nice 10 minute walk to the hotel, all for more money than a cab fare. The only useful monorail is the one between a few of the hotels at the bottom of the strip (mandalay bay, luxor and a few others i think) That one is free and is directly connected to the hotels.

Cabs between hotels is the way to go if you arent up for walking through the strip. It's pretty affordable and definitely better than renting a car. Frankly if you are going to hang out on the strip and downtown there's zero reason to rent a car. Cabs are much cheaper and more convenient.

My wife and I took the monorail to get to far ends of the strip (i.e. the Hilton or New York, New York). Yes you have to walk a LONG ways through the casinos to get to the stations but it's a good opportunity to see those casinos.

Now, my wife's uncle and aunt didn't like it at all but they are in their 70's and don't like to walk that much.

There is nothing cheap about cab rides in vegas...total rip off...however, make sure you take the shuttle to and from the airport to hotel, it's only $6...

i hate waiting for the shuttle sometimes.

depends on the cabbie, the airport ride to the strip is expensive if they sucker you to going the highway.

also if you are on strip and you want to go to the hard rock or palms , both popular off strip casinos, it's like $10.

also if you go to a 'club' they might charge you less if you go to the one the cabbie gets a kick back from.

I bought one too. they sell the same monitor at best buy, so I went to check it out. it was nice.

it was a tough choice between that and a similar Samsung on newegg ($20off select samsungs).

If you DO decide to rent a car, never park it yourself. Always use the valet.

NEVER go to Vegas in the summer, if you do don't leave your hotel..

Don't give me that "It's a dry heat" crap, it's so hot your shoes could melt on the sidewalk there in the summer..

IMO the best time to go is in February and March..

Ride the Deuce, its Vegas' double-decker public transportation. There are stops spaced out pretty evenly. Its a bargain b/c a 24 hr pass costs only 7 bucks! You can purchase it right on the bus.

I've been to Vegas many times during the summer. It is incredibly hot outside, but its not so hot as to not enjoy the trip. You are inside 95% of the time, and 5% of the time you are by the pool.

Not to mention the room rates are usually very discounted.

This is definitely true ... I am going this weekend, and I have 2 nights at the Las Vegas Hilton with 6 Buffet Passes, 2 Spa Passes, and 2 Free Drinks all for $135. The buffet passes alone are worth about $90.

2nded. Three day passes are like $18.00. They pay for themselves quickly. During the afternoon and evenings, its only a few minutes in between buses.

I wouldn't recommend walking, even if you are fit. The heat, crowded sidewalks, timeshare folks and p*rn peddlers will drive you crazy within 30 minutes.

Just an FYI. If you are staying on the strip, it is very possible you will need almost no transportation. If you decide to walk up and down the strip, you end up walking through the various hotels and casinos anyways, so you aren't outside all that much. If you have to go from one end of the strip to the other, you just hop a cab.

You can get away with no transportation if you really want, other than the airport transfer. If there are more than two of you, get a cab, if not take a shuttle.
