I am driving a 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse Automatic

And recently I have been having a problem with accelerating, Everytime I turn the car on in the morning I press down on the gas pedal and the car won't move(it is in drive), unless I rev the engine up (press down on the gas pedal very hard). Also once I get it going, everytime I come to an abrupt stop the car will stay in idle and again I will have press down on the gas pedal very hard to get it going.

Someone told me that it is a transmission problem. I wanted to get an opinion before I take it to the mechanic.

One thing I do know is I have never changed the transmission fluid, I have done my oil change.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

It would not hurt and it might help to change the fluid. At least check the fluid level. If it is low put some Lucas transmission fluid treatment in. Chaepest way to start anyway.
