. . . has been bad in every game I watch. 1. No one STOPS THE BALL so if the player has a head of steam he can go right to the rim. 2. They Spacing allows for lanes right to the rim 3. Players don't seem to get back How is it that you can launch a 3 . .. but not be back on defense AND NOT BE NEAR THE REBOUND No one follows their shot but they also don't get back on defense This drives me crazy and needs to change for the playoffs We need to stop the ball and stop outlet passes Rocket River
I feel like I complain about this in every game thread.. Again I have a very hard time believing anything will change because it hasn't yet.
Yep, every game it's the same crap. Rockets build a lead... then the other team decides they have to do something different, so they start getting out in transition and then POOF, the lead has disappeared. Every single game... whether they win or lose.
Honestly. . . if we were getting a gaggle of Offensive rebounds I would not be as pissed but You not getting rebounds AND you not defending .. . unacceptable Rocket River
The not following the shot thing drives me crazy. I remember having that drilled into me in middle school. Along with boxing out. And we ran plenty of sprints in practice to make sure we had the wind to run the floor when the game came. I swear, I can't think of another professional sport where all the fundamentals you learn as a kid don't seem to matter when you get to the pros and are getting paid millions to play as the few elite of the world in your sport.
Everything's been bad lately. Pick and roll defense, transition defense, defensive rebounding, the list goes on.
I don't think any players follow their shots anymore. I was always taught the shooter knows best where the ball is going So Follow your shot. Fundamental Boxing out is very weak in the NBA game. Then again I think 'Over the back' is not called enough That would reward good blocking out technique Rocket River
Prigioni did take a transition charge yesterday, but that's pretty much all of it. Leonard could get the steal and take it back himself with an open lane to the basket.
Agreed. Last night's game was so terrible. Okay if you are terrible on transition D, but you are crashing the offensive boards hard, then you get a little bit of slack. But if you're not even caring about getting in position and boxing out and crashing, AND THEN you also don't get back on D? Ah hell nah. Learn and move on, but they have to do better Friday. I swear Wednesday looked like a team that was heavily weighed down by the D-Mo No Mo' news.
Following your shot is something that is taught to kids but isn't really good fundamentals at higher levels.
For me, it's not just transition defense itself....but the stuff that LEADS to putting the Rockets defense in transition. I am talking about the Turnovers (Josh Smith cross court passes, Dwight Howard losing the handle etc). And the quick shots and long rebounds that we do not secure (which Beverley was good at). Cut down on some of THOSE items and magically the transition D doesn't look so bad.
For those who forgot what JVG would do, whoever took the perimeter shot would immediately backpedal. The offensive rebound was forfeited. Setting up for a long 3 off a rebound was eliminated. Yao would often sit back during opponent FT's (although that also had to do with other factors) and McGrady would almost always, no matter, be instructed to get back on defense when a shot went up regardless of where he was. The shooter the retreated was usually flanked by the closest wing.
