I know google is normally my friend but we're on bad terms today. I just went out and bought a 160 GB external hard drive and I need to transfer a couple seasons of TV shows I've downloaded via torrent. I want to transfer them from my internal hard drive to my external hard drive. It sounds like a rather simple process, but I can't seem to put the bat on the ball. Please help.
Simply "drag and drop". You should highlight the new drive, make a new folder, perhaps name it something like "T V Show", then simply drag and drop the files into that folder.
This is what I did initially...but after doing so, I checked the capacity of the external drive under it's "properties" and it didn't show to have used any space.
Nevermind guys... I am an idiot. I was transferring shortcuts to the video files to the external drive instead of the actual file. Carry on.
Nope, there speeds are limited to the transfer medium (USB 2.0 480mbps -theoretical, Firewire 400 mbps, etc).
Matters on the type of internal connection, ATA66/100 have a theorectical transfer speed of 66 / 100 (mBps) -- that is mega Bytes per second (mBps) as opposed to mega bits per second (mbps). There is also a SCSI connection which can be as much as 320 mBps and then there are other connection types / standards that are faster / slower.
