My girlfriend broke a promise to go to the BC-Temple game with me yesterday, so now she's taking me out to dinner and a movie.

It's "my day," but I don't want to totally make her miserable, so I was curious to know if anybody has seen either of these two movies?

I expect that Training Day is really more my type of movie, but I can enjoy romantic comedies if they're well done. So I want to pick the movie that's best overall. When romantic comedies get too bad, I just can't bear it (see: Wedding Planner). Also, if Training Day is really good, I want to see it while I have the chance.

So, how good are each of these films?

I thought Training Day was very good - great to see Washington enjoying a darker role - but a little long. Still, a good movie. But somewhat brooding and to use a cliched critic term, gritty. My gf called it 'scary'. :D

I don't know what to tell you about Serendipity - but I did find out that it's also written by co-star John Cusack. This was also the case with his High Fidelity, which I thought was a good flick.

Training Day was very intense. I thought it was wonderful but I think your g/f might have a better time at Serendipity :)

Training Day was extremely disappointing. I didn't like how they made Alonzo purely evil. I thought it'd be much more interesting if he was just unethical.

I loved Serendipity, but my two favorite actors are John Cusack and Jeremy Piven, so you must take that into consideration. However, if there was one actor or actress I could kill with a knive, it'd be Molly Shannon, and she didn't bother me.

Actually, that's pretty much the way he came off to me (unethical).

Howabout the ending? I saw the movie on Friday and I'm still thinking about that.

    Spoilers? Maybe?...

Yeah, it never came across to me as purely evil either. He was unethical. We were given the idea that once, he was exactly like Hoyt; but his time on the streets changed him. He still used the 'fighting the monsters' motivation, only twisted completely.

    Jesus, haven, I know you're a liberal, but you've still got a di*k, don't you?

    Training Day.

Of course you might be able to compromise on Zoolander...
