Any surprises waiting? I think this should be an extremely competive training camp with the guards and others looking to get on JVG's good side. Should be intereseting...
it'll probably be located in Galveston again... i think it start at the towards the end of the month or the beginning of October..
Yep, training camp should be competitive. It'll be interesting to watch them play the Kings on the Oct 14 & 17 - in China.
It will very likely be in Houston. Only Rudy has taken the team to Austin and Galveston. JVG likes to keep things close to home, so it will probably be at the Toyota Center. It starts the first week of October. Don't know the exact day, but media day is often on Thursday with the first day of camp on Friday, so it could be September 30.
Training camp was held in Galveston last year. http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/Van_Gundy_Puts_Stamp_On_Rocket-85654-34.html October 3, 2003 - Following Thursday's Media Day the Rockets headed south to Galveston, where they officially opened training camp on Friday. The team will practice at Texas A&M-Galveston through Sunday before returning to Houston in preparation for their preseason opener Tuesday in Portland. With the exception of second-year center Yao Ming, new Houston Rockets Head Coach Jeff Van Gundy held his first practice with the entire squad today at Rockets training camp in Galveston, Texas.
They had a week off after their first two preseason games last year and held practice at the Toyota center which was kind of like a second training camp. Thats probably what you're remembering Jeff.
Yeah, you are probably right. I don't remember the Galveston thing at all. I guess they were just there for a weekend or so. My bad.
They were there for 4 days, IIRC. I hope they go again because I now have a contact that can get me to the building at least. Maybe I can snap some pics for the board. This will be Yao's first full training camp. I am EXTREMELY optimistic about this season.
Let's have the pre-season soon so we can stop the off-season posts. They sure get old. However, they are a little bit better than no Rocket talk at all.
