The Lone Ranger will be released in theaters July 3, 2013. The film is being directed by Gore Verbinski and stars Armie Hammer as The Lone Ranger and Johnny Depp as Tonto. Also starring in the movie: Helena Bonham Carter, Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner, Barry Pepper and Timothy Hutton.

Most shocking part is that it's not directed by Tim Burton......

I was thinking the same thing when I saw it.

It looked fairly decent until the very end with Depp hanging under the train. That just came across as unbelievably fake/dumb in a Wild Wild West remake kind of way.

Why is Tonto on the poster, yet he's not the main character right? That trailer did nothing for either character.

LOL @ the Tim Burton comments.

This looks like a family-type movie... although I can see that with the burlesque ladies... it might not be.
Tonto is the wise one (as much as an oxymoron in a language way as that might sound). The Lone Ranger's mask is INSIDE Tonto's shape.

Not sure what to think that Depp is playing an American Indian. Amazed by his versatility? He's jumped the shark and needs to get back to playing actual people? Upset for actual American Indians (not that the original Tonto is truly reflective of real American Indians... but it was at least played by one).

    Movie looks ok.

You know what? I usually have a problem with every race always being cast as a white guy. But at least in this case Johnny Depp has Native American background. I know most white people like to claim they do, but Johnny Depp does look it.

But i do agree that he needs to start acting again and not just playing Jack Sparrow in different costumes. Dark Shadows was terrible. He continues to do the same exact Sparrow voice. Watch Donnie Brasco or any other movies b4 the Pirates movies and you can tell he changes his voice to sound like Sparrow pretty much for every role now.

I was not aware of that. Though it seems like as you mentioned he has a small amount that many Caucasian Americans may also have.

The first Pirates movie came out in 2003. That's almost a decade. Granted, he has at least attempted some non Jack Sparrow-esque roles. But The Tourist? That was crap. Probably why he resorts to the Jack Sparrow stuff. Not Oscar worthy (despite the nomination for the first one), but commercially successful.

I did at least like Public Enemies.

But if you look at his work from the 90's, from a critical acclaim perspective, it is filled with good stuff. Edward Scissorhands, Benny & Joon, Gilbert Grape, Ed Wood, Donnie Brasco, Fear and Loathing.

Though I can't blame him too much. He was loaded, had his first kid in 99 and as noted the Sparrow stuff sells well with the masses.

    Trivia question:

In Lone Ranger lore, does anybody know what unrelated fictional character is supposed to be the Lone Ranger's nephew?

Seriously the trailer just got worst and worst and totally uninspiring. The biggest problem is the trailer is damn boring and on top of that a terrible music piece to go along with it. They should have at least use the William Tell Overture and that would have turn the trailer up a notch. Also should have been a more serious take on the Lone Ranger instead they turn it into another Pirates of the Caribbean.
