This movie has been getting some good buzz. The movie is shot by fans in the crowd with cameras provided to them by the Beastie Boys. http://www.apple.com/trailers/independent/awesomeishotthat/ A formally innovative feature film experience, the Beastie Boys handed out 50 cameras to audience members at their sold-out performance in New York’s famed Madison Square Garden in October 2004. These 50 different passionate perspectives shot from the point-of-view of the audience take the viewer deep inside the world of a live Beastie Boys show.
I was one of the shooters... it was an awesome experience, we got to see the movie before it hit Sundance and SXSW... www.awesomeishotthat.com www.awesomeishotthat.com/march23 www.myspace.com/awesomeishotthat more info here http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=109779
basically, they asked anyone with a ticket if they wanted to participate as a cameraman for the "Live DVD" it was through the message boards, only three days before the show. the fifty fans were chosen based on their seating arrangement in Madison Square Garden.. we showed up the night of the show and were given our cameras.. we were told to keep shooting no matter what... have fun, but keep rolling... tape whatever we want, film the crowd, film the band, film your girlfriend singing along, just dont stop the cameras... it was an awesome show, Doug E Fresh made an appearance in "Time To Get Ill", and the band did an instrumental set from the "Check Your Head" days as well... for the next 12 months, Adam Yauch/MCA/Nathanial Hornblower edited the footage into an amazing final product... it went from a live DVD to a World Premiere at Sundance Film Festival and it screened to ravenous fans at SXSW... as far as the camera operators,we got a paycheck, we are listed in imdb, and our names are featured in the credits, and we got a special private screening with Adam Yauch back in January... I also got my article printed in Aint it Cool News http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=22145 the one night screening is tonight!!! www.awesomeishotthat.com/march23
I read that you guys had to give back the cameras. It's too bad they didn't let you keep them. I also read they weren't fancy, just hi8 cameras because they wanted a certain look for the film. How many tapes did you shoot? edit: just read your review. That's freakin' awesome that Stiller was there singing in the crowd. I'm looking forward to checking this out.
so much insight... so much intelligence... go away if you dont like it, you cant ruin my enthusiasm.. your response was predictable... in the words of Billy Madison... YOU SUCK! anyone in Austin, this is your chance to check it out, and by all means, if you dont like the Beastie Boys, then dont go see the movie, better yet, dont go posting in a Beastie Boys thread!
